AMD FX 4300 + MSI GTX 980 ?

Hey guys,

So I have a friend who gave me a pretty sweet deal on an Msi Gtx 980 for $60. Problem is, my current cpu - Amd Fx 4300, seems to be bottlenecking the sh*t out of it. Averaging anywhere from 30-120 fps on Fortnite and Apex Legends with super fps lag/stutters (Won't stay consistent) on the minimum in-game settings. Was wondering if this is a common thing with this cpu, if there's anything I can do to speed it up, and if you have any suggestions on what I should upgrade to.

MBD: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2
PSU: Corsair CX650M - 650W

 

The FX chip is a very old chip. Realistically you need to change CPU, if you want to stay with AMD go with one of the new Ryzen chips, very good price/performance chips.

 

Decimate is right, however changing your CPU will mean changing out the motherboard and RAM too, so it will end up being a more costly investment, its really not worth hanging onto the old platform you are on though.
