That's not a bad deal if it actually has a broadwell in it (5th gen) like it says. It doesn't mention the type of cpu, so I can't be sure. Newegg didn't even have a laptop like this with a 5th gen in it so I find it interesting. The 840m is very low end. Being only about 3x better than integrated 5500 chips, but it should suffice for low end games. BF Hardline should be playable if you turn the settings to low and do not run it in 1080p.

If you're looking to spend 900$ on a gaming laptop, look at some good refurbished deals:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834318605

Lenovo Laptop Y50 15.6” Full HD Gaming Notebook with Quad Core Intel i7-4710HQ 2.50GHz (3.50Ghz Turbo), 8GB Memory, 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB, JBL Speakers, Windows 8.1 64-Bit

    859$, don't forget to add a 50$ MIR and a 15% discount with code AFEX61Y50A = ~672$

And if you just want to spend 900$, then get 900$ worth:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152739R

    MSI GE Series GE70 Apache Pro-681 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-960M-vs-GeForce-GTX-860M Not too much of a difference between the 860m and the 960m.

Alright thanks for the input! I was liking it for the design that it had which was a factor. I've seen the Y50 and lots of other models but I still really liked the design of this one, just didn't want to shoot myself in the foot with only going for the 840m if I wanted to try out higher end games. Right now I'm playing almost only LoL and CS:GO but want to try out other games. I had no idea that you could get a Y50 that cheap I'll certainly look into it.

I actually was looking for a gaming laptop recently and decided on this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V...&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=acer+aspire+v15+nitr+o

It's a gaming laptop but isn't as flashy as some of the other models which I appreciate as it feels weird using something like the msi or asus rog laptops in an academic or professional setting.

It has a couple things that could be improved on but thus far I'm very satisfied with the purchase so I'd definitely look into it.

Even the Lenovo Y40 is good, I bought it recently and can run GTA 5 on medium in 1680x1080. The cost was in CAD so after taxes and shipping I spent around $1000, but if I remember correctly it's only $600 on their site for Americans.

I looked into it and found that they had it at Microcenter for $900 and ended up picking it up :D http://www.microcenter.com/product/443098/Aspire_V15_Nitro_Black_Edition_VN7-591G-70RT_156_Laptop_Computer
Am extremely happy with it and it has the 960m which is plenty for what I need. Thanks for the input!
