I was reading that this was done in C. Isn't that a bit of a dinosaur to be coding your bot on? Wouldn't it be easier to code it in a more recent language?

No.

C and C++ are two of the most used and most useful programming languages today. If you don't know them, you won't get a programming job 99% of the time.

The Win32 API is lower-level and therefore faster than .NET and Java (which are managed), and SCAR and Simba (which are interpreted).
