Account Sales and Rares

As some of you may recall, Sythe.org used to have a rule requiring the removal of any rares/wealth from an account prior to its sale.

The rule was based on the notion that RS accounts are one of the least secure transactions on the site, and the inclusion of rares or any significant wealth increased both the stakes and the probability of a scam.

Obviously, this rule became obsolete when free trade was removed, since it became nearly impossible (at the least, time consuming and inefficient) to move assets around.

However, now that free trade is back, I was curious whether there had been any thought into reinstating the rule. (For once, I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the issue, since I don't spend enough time in the account sales or RaS forum - this is somewhere between an inquiry and a suggestion.)

 

Thats an interesting idea but the seller would also have to find a buyer for their gold/rares too which might make it harder to sell.

 

What would the purpose of this be? So the buyer doesn't purchase an account and a day later the seller recovers it? And can't that just happen regardless of what wealth is on the account when it was sold?

This would protect the seller. As an example, someone buys their account, which has lots of gold/rares/wealth on it. He then trades all the wealth over to one of his account, and reverses the payment.

He's now gained that persons account wealth + his money back ( Its extremely easy to win a chargeback if your the one charging back : \ )

 

Ah my gosh, I get it now, my bad. This sounds like a great idea and should be re-implemented.

 

When reading it from this perspective i completely agree with this.

I support this just because of how risky the whole account trading process is.

It should not be complicated further by wealth being on the account.

 

That's certainly half of the argument, but the buyer is disadvantaged as well.

Say a $200 account is being sold with a white phat for $900. If the account had an 80% chance of being recovered before, the dramatic increase in price translates to an increased recovery probability of, say, 90%.

Now, if the buyer's stupid enough to leave the rare on the account, all they've done is open themselves to a greater probability of losing more money. But, even if the buyer is smart and moves the rare off the account, the seller doesn't know it. Because of this asymmetric information, the result is inefficient: the account still has a 10% higher chance of being recovered than if the buyer simply purchased the rare for their second account separately.

Obviously, these probabilities are random, but the point is the same.

 

I support this. If people want to buy an acc + rares they can just do it in 2 transactions. This will take slightly more time, but will definitely be beneficial in preventing larger scam attempts.

 

This could cause a little bit of discomfort for both parties. For the seller, he has to either A. separately sell his wealth, or B. find a different account to transfer it to. Buyer wise, sometimes they don't have any other wealth so they're hoping to purchase it with the account.

I can see both ups and downs for this. I'm not quite sure..

I have to agree with Rabs, there are always going to be scammers. The least we can do is try to minimize the risk.

Nothing wrong with implementing this rule again.

Advantages- Will cut down large scam attempts
Disadvantages- Takes more time for the seller to sell both the GP and account separately.

This is like using an OMM or not using an OMM, the advantages completely outweighs the disadvantages.

I fully support this actually, but there is still the risk of the account getting recovered when the user puts it back on the account.

 

Yeah, I'm kind of double minded on this 'inquiry'.

I guess it should be implemented, but at the same time I think otherwise.

 

Honestly, I don't see the point. If someone is going to scam, they're gonna scam regardless.

This isn't gonna stop anyone from scamming. In my opinion, it'll just inconvenience people.

 

How about allowing us to sign in through facebook ?

This is a good idea, however i don't support it. New members joining the website will find this confusing, and it will prevent many people from completing sales. As soon as the buyer buys the account, once he is logged it, if he really is worried about the seller recovering the account, the buyer can easily move the wealth by himself to another account. Also, if an account has 10b gold, it is not really safe to be moving this much gold between accounts, as a risk of a ban is higher. Account sales are really risky, so i think its up to the buyer to make the transaction safe by trading with trusted people. If the buyer is worried about the account being recovered, he/she should not be buying the account in the first place.
