Account Rentals

sounds like a giant pain in the ass for mods. it's a free market, and if people are stupid enough to trust people renting out accounts, that's on them.

i do agree, though, that a ton of scams happen in this realm and preventing them would be great. this is too much hassle though.

 

This wouldn't work as Super said, but if anyone wants to offer to keep that thread updated then let us know and we'll give them the sticky.

The same could be said for listing an account for sale; we can't physically verify every listing that goes up on Sythe and make sure listings aren't changed after verification. This would also halt anyone posting in a market section substantially and thus, affect the 'free market' rule we have here on Sythe.org.

 

Don't know if this was meant to be locked or not, but the only reason I suggested something like this for this section in particular was because I thought it would be feasible due to relatively low thread count (10-15 active threads). I don't think we just immediately preclude these kinds of suggestions with the argument that it's a free market (especially when Sythe is not a completely free market to begin with) when it's not all that impossible and restrictive (I mean realistically, how many new account rental service threads are being posted daily?). I noticed a thread just now in the section where multiple users were scammed by a login that was already listed in the blacklist.. surely it should be in the site's best interest to try to prevent scams from happening wherever plausible to do so. It's not foolproof by any means but certainly a big disincentive to these kinds of scammers.

That being said, if the general consensus of staff is that it shouldn't be done/not worth it/too much hassle, feel free to lock the thread. I would be up for helping keep the thread updated (if that's even possible).

i think the problem is these stupid money hungry scammers make enough off of staking on them that they need to boot people off, a mod should be updating that thread all day longggg

 

I believe a minimum of (25?) vouches should be required. This won't completely stop the scammers, obviously, but it would definitely descend the scams going on.

 

There has been multiple suggestions about Account rentals, but they have been denied because, like DD said, who you deal with is completely at your discretion.
If you don't trust the guy, just dont rent his account. Also, It's a free market & it would be too much work for the mods.

 

I'd personally impose a service similar to the middleman service, whereas people can become an official account rental service holder.

Requirements would have to be assessed by moderators to verify accounts for renting, and a deposit fee by the person owning the accounts would have to be made. A fee of 100mil 07 for example, would be enough to make sure you'd both earn back what you invested, and make sure you aren't in it to scam.

EDIT:

There would also be a deposit holder role for this type of service that would be held by an administrator(this is to make sure some moderator doesn't decide to scam quit for a lot of gold).

It is, but it also makes renting accounts significantly more safe for people, even if it takes some effort. Preventing scams isn't going to be possible, but reducing them is. Even though being staff is voluntary, there are going to be challenges at times.

 

I'm aware of all the past suggestions about account rentals - having even put forth one myself - but this one is different from those. This isn't so much about imposing restrictions on this market (though it will involve some, to a very minor degree), as it is about protecting people from known scammers. I see the term free market being thrown around a lot and while I appreciate efforts to limit restrictions on the market wherever possible we should also look to protect the average market user and should really think about the tradeoffs being made in this particular case...

 

Why don't you just make it like how the LOL boosting market is right now? It's optional to get verified but it can boost your business if you have the "verified maxed account" minirank?

May not work though cause people can still pull scams off, albeit only once.

 

I guess the mods are too busy infracting people for double posts to bother with updating a blacklist. #priorities

No.

The thread would have to be similar to the blacklisted skypes and/or runescape login names threads, which can be found here and here/here(2 versions currently existing?.

 

There's already a list in place here: http://www.sythe.org/other-services/1831304-black-listed-rental-accounts.html . I noticed that Ghast edited it a few days ago, but I think the last update before that was a few months ago... Also, don't know it's just me but I've been noticing a lot more activity out of these vaders in the account rental section as of late. Props to Mr.Extremez though for always being proactive in reporting these people.

 

I'm talking about helping to keep the existing sticky(ies) updated by posting links to the threads that contain all the information about them so a mod/the op can update it with what I've linked. It's not my thread so I can't edit it.

Just report the post with the link+scammers login name that's what I did and Ghast updated it
