Never used social media really. A lot of family members are celebrities including my sister, I always think about maybe if I just made some accounts I could have instant status piggy backing off of others. And like to think I'm a cool dude :p

Just never been that type of person.

I don't know if it helped or not. I have my ups and downs.

I completely agree with it that it would make you a happier person. I deactivated my Facebook (and by extent, everything apart from Snapchat) in 2015 and those few weeks were great in terms of quality of life. Not only do you lose the false basis to measure your own life to, you free up what you realise is an insanely large amount of time. I was productive, limited my socialising to in-person instances only, and in general spent less time online (also, the time you do spend online is much more focused!) Unfortunately, I came to realise that almost all the events I went to (parties, lunches/dinners, weekends away,) were organised through Facebook events. I came to find out about these events because the host or my friends had to contact me personally and invite me. I realised that I was becoming a bit of an annoyance as a result of me deactivating my account, as well as some distant friends who normally invite me (understandably) forgot about inviting me to certain events. I only found out about the event at the last minute because my close friend asked me why I hadn't confirmed I was attending the event, lol. So, I ended up reactivating the account with the intention to only use it for events, then to only use it for events and messenger, before liking over 200 meme pages and using Facebook solely as a source of memes rather than any actual updates from my friends. I'm happier with the outcome and it works, kinda. To be honest I wish I could eliminate social media entirely for a predefined amount of time - and might do sometime soon - however for now I think it's a necessary evil.

Yeah - I deleted my Instagram and Snapchat from my phone about 2-3 months ago and I feel a lot better on a daily basis. I am not constantly looking at media or wasting time -> Definitely was a healthy decision for me.

I rarely use Facebook, only go on when my friends tag me in memes. I do use Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat daily but mainly because I have nothing else to do and find myself always refreshing to see what stupid shit I can read. I don't pay attention to anything on Twitter unless it's shoes or fashion related.

I really think I'd be too bored without using social media. Especially snap.

I deleted all social media some time last summer and returned to it a little later. Didn't really change anything for me, although I do see some sense in the arguments here.

Deleting social media will undoubtedly put you at a disadvantage because 99% of social gatherings (in my case) are organised via social media. I guess a text messaging app could be used instead of something like Facebook messenger, but it's a lot easier to get someone to add you on Facebook than a phone number.

Aside from that, where would I browse memes if not on social media? :(

In your heart my good sir.

    On topic now,

It is obvious that not using any social media will most likely be a beneficial thing for you. Yes, a lot of stuff out there is based on the good shots of some people, their best moments, etc. They can't really expose their problems as they will be answered with the "Hey careful, we're in 2017 and I must judge you" symptom.

I personally use Facebook as a way to keep me up to date on the news. There was this discussion I heard last time on the radio where they were talking about how us, the new generation, is literally being informed through social medias. Facebook is for the new generation what a newspaper was for the past generation. Now, I'm not saying believe everything you see out there, you have to be careful. Too many people use social medias in order to capitalize on disinformation. What I'm saying is, filter your sources and you'll be just fine.

To be honest, I never really tried to refrain myself of using Facebook as it is also my way to communicate with friends/family, but it is something I'll have to try in the near future. I'm sure there can only be good stuff from it.

I don't use social media except for maybe discord and twitter to keep up with current events, and man am I definitely happy that I never started using social media super often. Many people I know do and it makes them super neurotic and unable to be without their phones for a long period of time, almost like an addiction.
