Ability to pick and show 5 ranks

With CSS it's possible to hide the fifth if the screen of the user it's too small (1024x768), but if the screen is over 1280px wide then a fifth can easily fit and larger screens can show more than that easily.

The minimum screen resolution is now 1366x768 so we need to stay up to date but be compatible with old devices. This can be done as I said.

Specially to staff and persons like me it would be useful. Not a big thing to do and easy to modify.

I support this. Even through I dont have 4 or 5 ranks myself, I find it annyoing as we don't really have 16inch screens that we used to have in 2007-2009, most of us got 20+ inch screens now so we have alot of empty space between user info+miniranks and name, avatar and fun-ranks.
Hiding 5th rank option would be great because those who are using tablets, notebooks, ultrabooks and laptops wouldn't be hurt by so many ranks with slidebar on the bottom of page.

 

This would cause problems for mobile browsers. I'm on mobile right now and anyone with a full row of mini ranks paired with 3 ranks is the limit before I get screen stretching.

5 ranks is just greedy. I've got 5 but I don't feel the need to show them all, plus as N4n0 said, alot of people browse via mobile and tablets nowadays.

As an ex-mod I couldn't even have 4 ranks due to some permissions problem and vBulletin, so I doubt 5 will work.

 

This.. I just don't feel like showing 5 ranks is necessary at all. Maybe it's because I don't have 5, but just pick the 4 you like/want to show off the most.

No support just doesn't seem worth the time to add, 4 is enough.

 

I personally support 5, the more the better, show off what you've earned.

 

Pretty sure the limit is 4. 5 ranks is only for "special people" as what I've read in the past.

 

No shit, Sherlock. Try reading the thread before you post. He's saying the 5th can be hidden with CSS, thus removing the only current reason people are limited to 4.

 

But as n4n0 said it's going to cause problems when browsing on low resolution or on a phone. My phone's browser gets "stretched" if there are 3 ranks never mind 4.

There's really no need for 5. 4 is enough.

I can't show Sythe Verified, if I had fun rank I couldn't show it, if I got mod I couldn't show it, etc.

CSS can solve the problem for smaller screens, there's nothing preventing it from really happening besides wanting to code it, which doesn't really take long.

 

In my opinion the issue is not whether it is possible, but whether it looks good. It makes the forums too cluttered imo.

 

Ye, but since Richard is working on mobile version of Sythe, maybe he could code this for non-mobile devices

 

I really don't want more things on my screen if I'm honest, just change them around.

 

Or Richard could have images compressed when the mobile version is released.

Perhaps look into hiring someone that knows what they're doing, if the site staff can't.

 

I think you don't know what are you talking about, Sythe, Matthew and Govind are very experienced in coding websites, you're new so you can be forgiven. It's not team of 3 kids running the whole site because they dont have anything else to do on default engines, settings and features. Sythe is actually very well organised, coded and has alot of features available that other forums dont.

 

If they can't modify the appearance and feel 'restricted' by the site, then they're restricted by their skill.

I'm not new to webdev, but I'm not a pro. I'm just saying, there is hundreds of ways to do what is asked by tbt, yet still make the people on mobile satisfied.

 

Even on my PC. More ranks just makes everything look cluttered.

Hiding 1 rank is just as easy as hiding two or three. Perhaps the best option is to display the first n ranks for sufficiently large screens, and implement a button to either scroll through or launch a popout with the remainder. This also solves n4n0's current 4-ranks + miniranks issue
