A way for Users to see

Well on the thread that SuF made I mentioned that users need to be able to be more involved/see more of what happens "behind closed doors". Because in reality every decision they make affects us drastically. So what do you guys think? I think that problems that involve the greater majority of Sythe (like the TinyChat issue) should not be discussed as heavily behind closed doors because you guys are debating what is better for the Sythe community. What do you guys think is a way for the Staff to be more open with their discussions without making the SL a public place?

I think it's quite obvious that we are open to having these discussions with the community. What is taking place right now in Feedback is an open conversation on the subject. The important thing to realize is that the best way to have your voice heard is to be respectful and open to debate. Attacking and disrespecting staff members is not the answer to the problem, and will not result in anything productive.

 

What do you have in mind?

 

Well I was thinking sort of like an "open court" situation for a test trial.

I think if the Sythe staff made a topic somewhere public where only the mods can post and they discussed something that would usually be discussed in the SL. But picked a topic that was a problem for all of Sythe (e.g. tinychat).

I'm not sure if I'm wording this right I didn't get much sleep last night.


Pretty much a topic where mods post and discuss a problem thats going on; but make sure its a problem that has a lot of controversy and actually involves the greater majority of Sythe (Like the tinychat situation).

 

I agree, some way for all of Sythe along with Moderators and Administrators to voice their opinion on large community-wide problems. This would be a great addition to not just the community, but to better Sythe in a community-driven way.

I think you misunderstood me a little bit. We have the feedback/suggestions forums where we can discuss problems with them. I'm saying that this is what the current system is (to my knowledge).

Suggestions/feedback gets discussed.
Thread gets closed
Gets discussed in staff lounge
Final decision gets made.

This is what I want to happen.

Suggestions/feedback thread gets discussed
Thread gets closed
Gets discussed by staff in a public forum
Final decision gets made.


This would also help so that when a decision is made the users know why this decision was made.

 

An interesting concept that I wouldn't mind seeing implemented.

 

Good idea Chris. My suggestion would be to simply make a post in community general somewhere about important issues, summarizing the current issue, the specifics of what is being looked at, and how it is being handled. Just being open to the public about all those issues would make people much more lenient in how they leave feedback, and the openness would be very appreciated.

 

Support. Or have a section where the finished threads are moved too

 

I support wombakage's comment about moving finished threads to a public section where everyone can see the result, then post their feedback in the feedback section. Either than that I'm to lazy to read the rest of the thread.

Of course the private ones can stay private, but the issues that affect the majority of the Sythe community should be available for the public.

 

Agreed on cases that have already been discussed in the Staff Lounge. I think issues and concerns should be openly addressed to us after they've been dealt with. It'll decrease fights and arguments, as well as unnecessary feedback threads.

 

That was basically what I was saying, but in a multi-step process. Although that was not what I was thinking you meant, thanks for clearing it up. I'm fed up with the secrets here.

 

Staff decision and debates threads really should be kept private, just so that they can stay completely open in their posts without any worries. A back and forth between the members and staff seems more realistic, but that requires suggestions to be taken and looked at which seems to be a bigger issue, that is suggestions sitting for massive amounts of time without being denied or accepted. If a new method is created for suggestions and changes and stuff, that should be included.

 

Sounds to me like you are advocating for a type of "Read-Only" forum or thread that we (regular members) can watch/read the staff debate.

That way we can see what's being talked about without getting in the way.

 

Create a sub forum under user suggestions for current issues being discussed by staff only.

Make permissions where only staff can post but everyone can view.


Also my 2nd idea is to actually use the Approved and Denied sub sections.

When an idea is being discussed by staff put that note on the last post. Discuss it in SL, then move it to either accepted or denied with a brief explanation of the decision.
