A short guide to getting 99's

    Introduction
In this guide you are going to get a basic understanding of how people get level 99 skills. All of which share some key components, and have ideas that you need to grasp in order to obtain them.

    Types of skills
There are three different types of skills. Lucrative skills, costly skills, and non-profit skills.

    Lucrative = Green
    Costly = Red
    Non-profit = White

    Attack
    Strength
    Defence

    Ranged
    Prayer

Magic - Can go both ways
    Runecrafting Lucrative after 91 especially
    Construction VERY EXPENSIVE
    HP
    Agility

    Herblore Typically costly
    Thieving
Crafting Can be anything, flax is lucrative, while crafting other materials can be costly.
    Fletching
    Slayer
    Hunter
    Mining

    Smithing Lucrative at higher levels
    Fishing
Cooking - Raw is almost always worth more than cooked
    Firemaking

    Woodcutting
    Farming
    Summoning

    Ways to do it
    • Legit
    • Botting

    Legit

If you are thinking about conquering this task legitimate, there are many things you need to realize. One, this takes dedication. Not only dedication, but you need to set time aside frequently to work on the skill you want to get to 99. You also need to set goals, definitive goals that you want to achieve in a certain amount of time. For example, "I want to get to level 80 hunter by tomorrow", and if you achieve that, set a new goal such as "Okay, now that I have 80 hunter, I want to get to 90 by next Tuesday". So, after you've achieved that, you set miniature goals afterwards. I find that if you set the 90-99 goal set its much less encouraging, but set smaller goals such as 90-93, 93-95, 95-97, and finally the last two levels individually. Once you've achieved this, congratulations! You've gotten a 99 skill! Enjoy the skillcape and showoff purposes. Another important mindset going into the journey is to always think of your goal, but not only that, think of the final outcome, which is 99. Also, don't always believe the guides when they say "You'll be 99 in 3 days!", because most of the time it takes far longer. Set your own goals and go at your own pace, it will keep your spirits the highest. Another suggestion I have for people venturing on a certain skill, always make sure you have the funds to do so. You don't want to have to stop working on the desired skill halfway through and have to work on making money.

    Botting

Botting takes far less effort, but again takes commitment. In this venture, it will be much slower. Always understand that botting is going to be much slower than doing it by hand, NO MATTER WHAT. If you're gonna bot, might as well make a new account instead of risk what you already have, and just dedicate your time to a certain skill. Again, make sure you have proper funds before starting. Don't set goals, for they will only depress you as you find that you bot has disconnected 10 minutes after you left for the movies. Just go with the flow, it'll progress on its own.

    Conclusion
Just work at your own pace. Make sure you have good funding. Set goals to encourage yourself, and take a break every now and then, but don't give up. Once you achieve your goals, make new ones. If you're going to follow a guide, remember where the word "guide" derives; guideline. They're just a basic idea of how you should train, not hard set rules. Train the skill you want in the way you wish, not how anybody else tells you, and just stick to it, you'll get there in due time!

    Constructive criticism appreciated!

How is slayer a non-profit skill? I know many people who have made millions getting their slayer level up. It is a profitable skill.

Most of it is related to hunting monsters, which is mainly just an extension of att/def/str/mage/range. You don't earn money directly from Slayer, is what I'm saying. If you don't think the guide is good, then sugguest something guys, thanks for the heads up R33l2r3al, I'll change slayer to a halfer.

Well not bad, good first go. This would help people who want to see which skill they should get. Would be kool if you put how much to get 99 in that skill and the bonuse to get those high levels ( 91 double nats). You did mention that so good work

    4/10 for your first :)

I see your perspective now. Technically your wealth with slayer is based on luck, however anyone that has gotten 99 slayer knows that you will make money off of it.

I would also like to point out that Magic is profitable. I made roughly 60m getting 87 to 99 Mage. It is definently profitable if you do it right.

Not a very good guide; your beginning color-code reference to price etc. was completely wrong though. Attack, strength, and defense are not profitable if you train properly (bandits, spiders, dagganoths, etc.), ranged you often profit from if you kill aviansies or fire giants, magic is typically an insane non profit skill (unless you humidify to 99 and that takes like a year), I think you meant spinning flax into bow strings when you said "flax", fletching can be lucrative if you do yew longs, slayer is 100% lucrative, and smithing is non profit and never lucrative. (When I say this I am assuming that, for example, smithing you are not mining all the ore, you are buying it.)

Keep in mind every single skill can be lucrative if the materials are made by yourself (with the exception of agility and hitpoints).

Nah there's no way to add pictures for this. And I would agree with you if the information wasn't all wrong. Also the word is ignoramuses not "ignorants" so it seems it is you who is ignorant.

Obviously you're in an unhappy mood. First off, if Attack, Strength, and defense are not profitable, then there's no way Slayer is, because I think your main argument there is food. Slayer would also require food. Ranged 90% of the time is going to cost you. Chins/cannons are very expensive, you're just trying to pull out small points in the guide where you can argue, that's not constructive criticism. Fletching yew longs are no longer profitable unless you don't buy the materials, yew longs don't sell in the G.E, because they don't high alch for as much anymore, making them not profitable. Smithing is profitable under these circumstances: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=420320. Please at least do your research before attacking me, and please don't contradict yourself in your own post, it makes you sound stupid.

For all of you that gave me constructive criticism, thank you! I'm going to modify my guide after considering all of your points. Again, thank you all.

Very short, but almost all skills are profitable to whether or not you're selling your account. :]
