    VPS Help

Not sure if this is in the right section, move if necessary.

Basically I want to get a cheap VPS as I'm sick of leaving my pc on overnight to run bots. I want to be able to run bots overnight without the terrible whirring of the fan keeping my awake at night.

This is my first time buying, so I need some guidance. As far as I can see it needs about 1GB RAM (In order to run 3-4 rsbots.net bots).

Please point me in the right direction for a cheap VPS. Also, no one say google it, as some sites are asking for $70 a month for 1GB RAM VPS.. Which even I know is overpriced..

    VPS Help

Ok, I really am a noob in this 'area'.

I'll take a look, but I was more looking for a link to a site that sells cheap VPS rather than advises them, that's more the point of this thread.

    Thanks ^_^

I was more or less recommending reading and educating yourself on the subject, :p. I will, however, find you some links to good VPS websites.

Could you provide me with an estimated budget?

    VPS Help

    A few more questions..

I am planning on getting Beam 2
    http://www.photonvps.com/vps.html

On the checkout page, it says:

    Configurable Options

This product/service has some options which you can choose from below to customise your order.

The list of options is as follows:

    Centos 5 32bit
    Centos 5 64bit
    Centos 4 32bit
    Debian 4 32bit
    Debian 5 32bit
    Suse 11 32bit
    Suse 11 64bit
    Ubuntu 8.10 32bit
    Ubuntu 8.10 32bit
    Ubuntu 9 32bit
    Fedora 10 32bit
    Fedora 10 64bit
    Gentoo 2008
    Arch Linux 64bit
    Arch Linux 32bit
    Debian 5 64bit
    Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
    Ubuntu 9.10 32bit

Which one would I choose? Also, would this all work fine as I am running Vista, there are windows packages available but they are alot more expensive. I am struggling to realise why, unless this package is only available for those on linux?

The other box goes as follows:

    Configure Server

    Hostname:

    Root Password:

What would I put in these 2 fields?

    Thanks.

Centos is best for a VPS imo. Unless you bought 64 bit technology do 32 bit centos 5.

Hostname: whatever you'd like your server name to be
    Root Password: administrator password.

Okay, look macaroni i'm sorry but if you don't know what these are, you're gonna have a shitload of a hard time setting up your VPS.

Good luck, and i'd help you but that'd be costly

Eh, I didn't really expect it to be all that difficult.

I'm sure I'll manage, with a little help from people, and of course Google.. >_<
