What is the best free and paid anti-virus? I'm currently using the free version of AVG, and it does the job. I've also heard some good things about Avast and some horrible things about Norton. I'm planning on buying some good antivirus software once I buy my new computer.

So what do you think? What is the best, and the most cost effective?

hey whats up dude? i remember you from that one p server..lol. im lynched.

anyway i got kaspersky anti-virus. its great. very user friendly. updates its virus database daily.

or trend-micro. but i would pretfer kaspersky over trend.

if you want the best then get ESET Smart Secruity(NOD32) and last year the best anti-virus was kapersky but this year its ESET Smart Secruity(NOD32).

I'm using AVG 8.5 Free and it does an excellent job. Between that and the built in stuff on Windows Vista, I think I'm pretty safe.

I'd recommend AVG for free and Norman as paid for. :)

Top free AV's at the moment: Avira, Avast

NOD32 is the most reliable IMHO.

side by side testing avast and avg are by far the only good ones. Its a tie between them to.
