Why not have a debate about Sythe.org, and if what has changed over time, has been for the better.

I believe that the Old sythe was better since rather than having what we have today - a few communities, all with separate goals and views (the SpamFags, mods, Veterans, GFX'ers, Merchants/traders, etc) the Old sythe had a more integrated community, with similar aims, and a closer bond between most members. You could say that this result (what we have today) is the effect of a growing number of members, but still, the community has slightly degraded over time, with members who are generally hated for their beliefs, not accepted into the community, and the old members trying to preserve their importance and fame by viewing new members as inferiors.

I guess if you take it from the pre-"runescapegetshitted" era...

 

I had a very old account and I remember what it was like in 2005. Everyone was very close-knit and knew who everyone else was. Sure there was still a ton of scammer, but the ratio back then was a lot smaller than it is now.

The problem is all the new members always end up getting banned in less than a year, and are not very active in all the forums, so they remain un-known.

Older members think they're "superior" because they known what 90% (10% are actually OK) of new members are like.

-55% are scammers
-25% are just plain retarded
- and the last 10% are the worst: They pretend to like the community, and the members in it, and they try to suck-up to Mods/Admins to get attention. Then, after a while of being "trusted" (example UE rank), they go ahead and do something retarded like scamming. This makes it hard for people to tell who's in which group, so the older members just tend to stick together instead.

 

Haha, you believe only 55% of the demographic consists of scammers? There should be a classification called, "scammer and dumbass".

Back on track, yes, this happens to all forums as they age and grow. The quality of members, their beliefs, their posts and their intentions degrade over time. How to solve the problem? Well, as for topics go, mods could be a little more uptight about posts; deleting spam or posts that add little conversation value while warning/infracting those members (more than they do now, I see a lot of shitty posts when browsing topics). Eventually, they'd be so heavily infracted and end up being banned from forums, abridging the demographic leaving the more valued members behind. The scammer problem? Idk, no suggestions from me.
