Chatbox?

should we have a chatbox? post why or why not i think it would be a great idea to have one.

 

Yes, its a good idea... but there is alot ppl here so will be a chaos...

Yeah, you can't suggest this and think about what a chatbox would be like if 100's of kids are in there talking/spamming their threads.. and then the retards who join to mess shit up would destroy it. It would also take a lot of activity off the forum.

 

Chatbox is for cruddy sites that try to spur activity in their forums, only to find out it actually does the opposite and destroys the site.

 

I think this would be a bad idea. Since it would end up as a place for people to advertise their shops.

I think the chat box would work it if worked like pm. One on one chat. on the other hand it might make the site lag even more than it already does...lol

 

Chat boxes are nothing but spam and flame fests. I hate them and think they look tacky.
Also, I'm pretty sure this suggestion is in the do not suggest list.

 

Chat boxes eat up a lot of bandwith, bandwith sythe can't afford to lose.

Firstly, it's on the do not suggest list. Secondly, the downfalls of a chatbox are more numerous than the pros of a chatbox. There would be 100's of people talking at once, making it seemingly impossible to have a conversation- but the private chats within a chatbox would combat that, perhaps if we installed a system where there could be multiple people per private chat. Not only is it difficult to have a conversation, but it's very simple and easily accessible to spammers. Spam would occur constantly in the chatbox and would be nearly impossible to regulate.

yeah like if we had a chatbox within pm system wheere you had to get invited to talk and you can have a few people in it to talk about things then that would work

This is coming from my personal experience from being a site owner, when a shoutbox is active etc it uses up SO much bandwidth with refreshing etc that you'll go over your hosting plan like mad. In the end it isn't worth it.

 

Yeah, You_Jew has a point. I've owned a few forums in my time and shout boxes do indeed eat up precious bandwidth that could be used in better ways.
That's just another thing to add to the list of reaons why they are bad..
Spam
Harder to Moderate
More work for the mods
Take up precious bandwidth resulting in slower forums and more downtime, something Sythe does not need.

I'm pretty certain there are way more cons than pros for a shout box.
