It is a proven fact that people marry of about the same physical attractiveness, yet they say they "love" each other.

Personally, I don't believe love is what it's cracked up to be.

If you have a girlfriend, think about this. What if the next time you saw her she had been in a horrible car accident and was disfigured; would you still have the same feelings for them?

This is mostly for teenagers who think they love every person they meet, when it is 100% lust most of the time. If you are still not attracted to someone after you take their looks out of the equation, you're not in love. And in most cases, this is the scenario.

It is simple social psychology, "feelings" are just place holders for physical desire, in most cases. Especially with adolescents.

I'll agree that holds true with adolescents, but as couples get much older, they both lose most of their physical beauty anyway, and by this time they have learned to love who the person actually is. If they can't...well...that's exactly why 50% of all marriages end in divorce. But if you're married until you die, I wouldn't call it a physical attraction anymore.

dunno.
it's bullshit in my opinion. stay away because none of it is real.

I'm actually really glad you brought this up. I need to keep this in mind.

I've been searching for love for a while and I haven't been quite sure what it is.

You forget the different between love and in love.
Nowadays, both mean the same thing, but with a more mature, experienced audience, there's a large difference.

Mreh. Just more words to be thrown around to put different meaning to a word that has no meaning in the first place.

I agree, you "love" your family and friends different than you "love" a partner (which is what I think you're trying to say) but really, the only reason you "love" your family is because you've become dependent on them in one way or another.

When i know and see a girl that i really like, and i get that feeling that i want to be with her, i say i like her, not i love her, so ehm dunno what love is.

You like someone, mostly because of their looks then personality.

I would

for sure.

There is a difference between LOVE and infatuation.

You'd also love your family because they care about you and like you for who you really are.

I've had one girlfriend throughout my life, and I didn't tell her I loved her until she turned anorexic and became skinny and all that shit, which was about 6 months in. Therefore, being the exception to the rule of "teenagers who think they love every person they meet", I win this thread ;)

Mostly, yes.

I'd still marry the girl. If I was with her in the first place, I'd have feelings for her, therefor beauty has nothing to do with it.

My girlfriend right now isn't the hottest girl in the world, but I don't care, I love her. :noworry:

Its called infatuation. Everyone I see I am unbiased towards, because looks are only the cover of a book, so to say.

Love is just crap for teenagers, or people who are just immature in general.
Some people do, Ive known people who date the ugliest people in the world, and they dont give a fuck.

I know that this is absolutely true in most teenagers, and it's stupid walking around school all the time and seeing two faces match.

The people look like they're in the same group of wealth, and so they should belong together because of the way they live and how they look?

Basically, I agree with what you're saying Shakaka.. don't mind my statements.. because they most likely sound illogical at this moment. >_<

Yeah, What he said.

Although... 50%? Are these statistics correct?

I rather doubt the fact that everyone can tell if they're in love as adolescents. Hormones have a lot to do with the feelings we have for people which is why it's such a horrid age. Although, there's a lot of times you see people going out, married, and so forth that one of them can obviously do much, much better. But she/he choses not to.

I don't think it's right to generalize a certain age group based on the majority but I really think that the mind plays a lot of tricks on us.

I've been going out with my boyfriend since I was 13, when I knew nothing, and simply liked him. We've been going out for 4 years. You can't really base the success of a relationship on age, no matter how much hormones get in the way. They'll always be urges, no matter simple or complex, but in the end, it's what you feel.

However, I do agree with you that on most cases, the "love" that sustains a young relationship isn't really love at all, but the fact that the counter-part looks good, or is willing to go to a certain level. It's ridiculous.

Agreed. Both my parents were in good shape when they met. They looked good and everything. They got married, had 3 children.

As years went on, they both gained LOTS of weight. They aren't the most attractive people now. In my opinion, they are ugly.

I have talked to them about their love before. They said that they have never loved eachother more. They're love grows more and more each day even though their appearances have changed drastically.

That's what love is.

A person may think they love someone but until their appearance changes, they will not know for sure. It is usually lust.

"It felt just like falling in love... again ♥"

Hipocrite.
Love is very strong and is mis-used everyday, I find it annoying when people have on thier msn names Ily jess (random name)
or even <3 (or) (L) jess
It's ok if you put a sign to show you're dedicated to them, saying like the numbers you got together alone.
Infatuation is not love, I hate when people use the term I love you, especially when they've only gone out less then a month.
I say it takes a year and loads of maturity to have true LOVE.
Just my 2 cents
