I bought my laptop. Not the Satellite, but a $779 HP. Still want to know if it'll run WoW and CS Source or not.

Specs:
CPU - 2 processors running - AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70
CPU Speed - 2.0GHz
RAM - 2.7GB
Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G

On http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/ it said only my processor didn't meet the minimum standard. I figure it would play because the minimum CPU speed for WoW is 800MHz.

Any more thoughts?

Trying to decide which one to get. Looking for one that would run WoW and Counter-Strike Source perfectly.

I don't want to pay $2000 plus for a POS Alienware. My budget is $800-900.

I was thinking of getting this:

Toshiba Satellite
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?seg=HHO&poid=418429

I have no experience with Vista, so I have no idea how the games would react with that laptop. All I know is 2.0GHz and 3GB+ RAM seems like it would run flawlessly.

I was also thinking about having one built... Basically the best shit Toshiba offers.

Specifications customized

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic 32-Bit
4096MB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (2048MBx2)
17.0" Diagonal Widescreen WXGA+ TruBrite® display (1440x900)
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 128MB-358MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
250GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA)
DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) drive
Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN (802.11a/g/n)
Lithium Ion battery (9-Cell, 6000mAh)

Total: $1252.89

^ I'd have to save a few more paychecks, but I think it would be worth it.

If you know of any that are better and around my price limit please tell me.
If the processor is single core, DO NOT get it. 2.0GHz is nothing. You may get some alright performance with a dual-core at the same speed, and Quad-Core would definitely run flawlessly.

As for the RAM, it seems an alright amount. Keeping in mind that the x86 architecture can only natively run 3.5GB of RAM (or around that). Therefore, you are probably better off getting a laptop with an x64 or x86_64 processor (I don't fully support the x86_64 processors, as because AMD invented them, everyone is still using the shitty x86 architecture).

Try and get a newer model. That's all I can really say. If you want a laptop, get a new model that isn't so expensive, as it will most likely last you longer in the end.

I'm sorry, but you lost me about half-way through =\

Could you link me to something you're talking about, if you don't mind the hastle?

just get acheap dual core it will run css and wow fine. Quad core is out of your price range, and you dont even use the 4 cores anyways.

an x86 processor is 32-bit. 32-bit can only have a maximum of 3.5GB RAM or thereabouts. x64 is 64-bit. 64-bit processors can handle a shitload more, but in turn are less common because AMD released an extension to x86 called x86_64, which allows you to use 64-bit and 32-bit on the same processor.

The most important part of gaming laptop is graphics card. Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 is not a good card.
The graphics card is only ever as good as the processor that handles information. In other words, if your processor can't feed your graphics card without struggling, then it's not a good buy.

Intel also makes bad graphics chipsets.

You can't compare the clockspeed of a mobile cpu to that of a desktop cpu, they're more efficient. The CPU in that laptop (which is dual core) that you posted the stats of would be fine, but the video card sucks

Get an HP laptop. I got this one right here, for $600 USD. It's great, 2 dual core processors, 137GB HDD, a second HDD with 11GB, 2 GB DDR2, 799MB+ Graphics Memory, 1200x800 pixel HD display, and much more.

try used allienware from ebay ? they are really great !

Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6851
15.4-inch Laptop
2.0 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-70 Processor
3 GB RAM
250 GB Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 3100 video card
DVD Drive
Vista Premium

Thoughts? Remember, all I really need it for is for WoW and CS.

Above doesn't sound bad but the graphics card and CPU you might want to re-consider

Why not get a desktop? Hardware can easily be changed and you will find it alot more gaming freindly due to the fans you can place to give you system a cool tempetature.

A gaming Laptop wouldn't last very long if you plan on overclocking, and besides you'l be paying so much for crap specs. It's not worth it.

I need a laptop because I'm in the Air Force at tech school. I live in a dorm where a few things are restricted. We can't leave any valuables outside of a locked closet for security reasons. I don't want to put together/put up a desktop every time I want to use it.

I need a laptop for portability and wireless internet.

Ah, fair enough

Seems to be good, the only let down is the CPU, i can never find laptops with good cpu's

Or if you know a thing or two about hardware use:

There, you can determine exactly what you want for your gaming laptop
