Hydra thoughts

Do I think the guy reporting is an idiot? Yeah, probably. Do I think he or any of us are necessarily entitled to a refund? Probably not.
What I do know is that Hydra shutting down before receiving any DMCA or cease-and-desist, especially after putting up a sale the week prior, is a bit hard to ignore.
Call it a conspiracy if you want, but the timing is definitely coincidental.
At the end of the day, I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the Hydra team and the community that grew around it. It’s just unfortunate that it ended the way it did.
Rather than a random “closed indefinitely” announcement, I think a message along the lines of, “Due to the current circumstances, we’ve decided to halt all future sales, and Hydra will be shutting down in 14–30 days,” would have gone a long way.
Even if the end result was the same, giving people some notice would have left a better taste in everyone’s mouth.
At the same time, everyone who bought in knew the risks involved. This wasn’t Netflix or Amazon, this was a third-party OSRS community operating in a gray area. Anyone purchasing ‘lifetime’ access had to understand that lifetime could end tomorrow if circumstances changed.
thanks for reading my Ted talk
