Love?

...No, but that's not what that sentence is saying :P

But back to that actual topic! :]

As the great poet said: "True love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT - mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe"
What makes "true love" better than coin in my pocket? For the matter, why is it better than other emotions?

love does not exist it is just a figment of our minds to give affection towards someone else we feel is pretty, nice and a great person.

Well mate, you yourself said that you're anti-social if I recall, meaning that you don't facy that emotion, but there are other people who find it the best thing in the world 'a dream within a dream' even, the fact that you don't share the same thoughts about this emotion doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or... that it's value is any less, just because -you- think so.

True, however I really am looking for a decent reason why people believe in what they do.

In that case, you can just look at it in a scientific prospect and call it a... biological match - two people who pruduce the correct kinds and amounts of pheramons and just so happen to have a personality that is appealing to the other person.

While I don't like talking about it -that- way, you can choose to look at it in such a cold way.

Love is there even if you cant see it. Its like God. It doesn't make sense but you have to be close minded to not believe in it. I mean why should there be evidence for everything. There's a lot of thing that we know are there but don't make sense. Use your imagination.

If love is like God, then I do not believe in it, and thoroughly hate it.

I guess that means I'm ignorant in your eyes, however to me you seem quite the fool. It is foolish to believe in something without evidence.

Imagination and reality are two very different things.

I've been waiting for you to reply, my dear Swan :P
You puzzle me - while on one hand I do agree with you that you shouldn't blindly believe in something you don't have any evidence of [I for one am agnostic] - I don't agree with you about this when it comes to love, there are evidences of it everywhere, you're just blindly refusing to acknowledge them.

I'm touched. Is it because you are interested in my views or because of the content of my post that you waited for me? (This is just a general question)

I was talking about him comparing God to Love. Love, like all emotion, occurs due to chemical reactions inside the brain. The effects of these chemical reactions are what we recognise as love. For example, actions taken due to a strong feeling of affection towards another person is the evidence of such. Hence, it does exist, but for some more than others. I'm not refusing to acknowledge it, I simply don't appreciate it, and consider it a set-back or hinderance.

Regarding pheremones, they are simply catalysts, so to say. They make these chemical reactions occur at a more constant rate. When you don't feel mutual love towards anything biological, these pheremones are of little importance.

When you miss somebody and you feel you need them. I believe that shows strength of love.

Since you stated that you hardly ever laugh ect, I'll hold you feeling touched, a little higher than usual.
As for your question, it is your views that interest me, as you obviously stand as my Devil's Advocate in this matter, as well as for the fact that you remind me of some of my friends, a little bit more as an extremity though.
...Usually when me and those friends get together, it sounds like the begining of some lame joke "A romantic, a cynic and a philosopher enter a bar"

Anyhow, back to our little disagreement:
You do acknowledge the existance of this feeling, and while you say that you don't "appriticate it yourself", I can't seem to understand why you can't see the logic in others enjoying this feeling, as... scientificly, this feeling is meant to cause happyness.

No? :]

Okay.

We, as humans, are born with our hearts on our sleeves.
It's who we are, and it's who we've every been. That phrase above, "We're prone to love", completely right.

No, "I love you" isn't just a phrase to make someone feel better. It can be used as one, don't get me wrong, but it's not. ;D

There really is no one definition for love, because like your post said, they're different kinds. One kind is selfish love. [pssh]

When you've give up your only life for something/someone, it's love. There's really not to many other ways to put it.

Well, that's my input. ;D

Agreed completely

Human beings. We tend to break.

My emotions, they are not easy to explain, as you can probably see. The only reason I live, is for myself. Most would consider this a selfish act, and I admit it, it is. I will not deny that I am a selfish person - but when you break it down, there isn't a single person who isn't in the slightest way. We always want ourselves to come out on top. For example, as a child is attracted to the last piece of candy. We all know this feeling, do we not?

The emotion known as love, I consider it ... primitive, so to say. It is seen as an emotion of happiness by most, however I do not feel happy. A year ago, all it brought me to was the point of breaking. The past lays heavy decisions on our future, is it not so? Regardless of my past, that is not what I will share here. All I will say is nothing "bad" happened.

So far as caring for others, I hold on by a "single thread." Every passing day, I simply care less and less about the people close to me. They're just other humans.

EDIT:

I will add this. Just because I do not feel love, does not mean I am emotionless. I feel emotions of fun, interest, hate, preference ... Such is personal to every human being. If I did not have these, there would not even be the need for me to live for myself - I would be a shell, a "living corpse," so to say.

I must be off to bed. I will either re-read this thread in the morning, or when I get home from school tomorrow.

Well, in the meantime -
Yes, you are correct, we are all selfish beings in the end, and a big part of the reason we people, seek a life partner, is in order to make our lives easier and better.

Also, how can you call one emotion primitive, if you do claim to feel [And without any remorse for it's 'primitivness'] it's complete opposite?

Would you perhaps prefere to continue this discussion on private messages? as, it seems as if we're starting to talk more and more about things that are personal for you.

Hmm. If you wish to.

Long story short, I simply don't feel this emotion.

I'm with Shawn on this one.
Love is indescribable.
But when you find someone that you love, you will truly understand.

"love comes from the heart" is a expression; do not take it literally. Love is an emotion, which exists in most people and it is comprehended from the brain. For instance, say a girl is talking sexually, it would cause your brain to recognize it as arousal and you'll start showing signs of being sexually "in the mood". And love is not a special energy, but it does exist... As an emotion, not a physical object.

Most of us already understand that there is a difference between the heart and the soul. Love comes from the soul, not the heart. However, it has been proven that even a heart has a memory. This was proven when a person who needed a heart transplant received a heart from someone who drowned, actually ended up getting these new feelings that he's drowning and that he can't breath and such, when he didn't have these problems before the heart transplant. I can probably source this if I felt like looking for it on Google, do a Google search yourself. I doubt anyone would make all this up.
