[Food] Tarka - Indian Kitchen Review

Alright, so first of all huge, gigantic, girthy thanks to Abarta for sponsoring this review. He wanted me to review Chipotle and/or whatever the heck I wanted. I chose to do Indian food . So thanks for sponsoring this review... on June 23rd... almost exactly 6 months later, here it is!

Price Paid: 3.50 for Mango Lassi, 4.75 for Kabob Bowl, 8.5 for Coconut Curry Chicken.



Mango Lassi -

Lassi is a yogurt-based smoothie of sorts. Traditionally savory, they've grown to become sweet. Now, I love mango. I love yogurt. You get me some Korean yogurt drinks and I'm golden. This drink, however, tasted like sweet nothings. Literally. I got no yogurt flavor, only mango. I went on my knees and begged for the white creamy goodness of yogurt, but nothing came. It fell short of my expectations, and was merely "alright." I don't have a good way of explaining what this drink did to me, but whatever it did, it didn't do it right.

Lamb Kabob Bowl -

Simple and good. This was simply lamb kabob + garnishes + basmati rice. Fun-sized and delicious. Can't go wrong with basic protein and carbs.

Coconut Curry Chicken -

"Smooth onion sauce infused with fresh ginger & garlic, finished with coconut milk & potatoes"

Sign me the heck up! Let's get to the basmati rice.

The texture was off-putting. I had a frozen Indian meal before, and I thought the texture was just due to the frozen nastiness, but oh no it is a different beast of a rice. I grew up with plenty of rice, so this rice's texture and flavor take some getting used to. Again, ends up alright. I would have prefered "normal" rice, though.

Finally, the curry and protein. Perhaps lack thereof, as I was able to eat 6 pieces of chicken and that seemed to be all of the chicken in my potato-curry soup. That said, the flavor was off-putting to me and I ended up boxing the coconut-curry potatoes and rice to-go. It was hardly spicy, the spices aren't up my alley I suppose, and the texture, temperature, and consistency of the curry, especially combined with the rice, lead up to an experience that can best be described as eating a girl's gritty kitty after a long day at the beach. Mushy. Gritty. Warm. See: Chipotle's awful queso.

What I learned, is that I'm not much of a fan of Indian food. Maybe a thai curry would be better...

Overall, I wouldn't go here again, but this is probably due to personal tastes. Plenty of people like this place enough to have lines out the door.

Currently hangover and I almost threw up when I saw the food... nonetheless neat review, as always!

 

I was going to get a naan after my meal, but I didn't end up finishing any of the dishes myself. Gave them all out.

I had to go to Denny's for Christmas. Ordered exactly 1 hour in advance. Grabbed it and brought it back. The food was cold. The burger patties were splitting apart. There were no pickles as promised and an unnecessarily large piece of lettuce. They did remove the tomato and red onions though, which I appreciated. No condiments were placed on the burger, but I was fortunate enough to ask for some ketchup packets before leaving. For some reason I was given two packets which included a fork, knife, napkins, salt and pepper. All of the food looked, felt, and tasted so unappetizing, including the fries. One of the burger patties was raw half-way through (how is that possible?), so I placed it on the side (not to eat later...). It was very underwhelming, but I'm grateful Denny's was open today so I could eat... although I drove past Taco Bell and saw they were open for some reason... there were approximately 10-12 cars in line though. Roads were terrible. Weather was and still is terrible (feels like -7). My windshield completed its crack. Seems like we're going to have another week of this. At least I won't have to eat Denny's for another year.

 

This sounds like something I'd type... I like it. I've had a similar experience with these large chains of crap food. Take-out at restaurants just doesn't seem to work. I'm perfectly fine with never going to Denny's, IHOP, Chili's, Red Robin ever again. They've got the worst microwaves.

 

To be fair, I tried ordering a chicken bacon ranch sandwich from Domino's a few weeks ago and you could taste the chicken was cubed and frozen.

 

Oh yeah when you can taste freezerburn... that's why I don't order certain items. Makes me want to get their speciality chickens... oven baked chicken with cheese burnt on oh yes.
