I find it rather odd that after being part of a community where shit-talking the recently deceased is welcomed, it merely took someone saying you're a racist to cause you to leave.

Regardless, take care & best of luck.

Idk you much but honestly to whatever mod who painted you as a racist for saying "crackers can't jump" need to just look through maybe a couple threads or the last few messages in discord and I am 100% sure you'll find the word "nigger" How is this not racist too? Sad to see someone go for such a dumb reason :/ not your fault tho, I understand if you'd want to leave. I would go in this situation.

It'll happen everywhere in life and if you're just going to turn around and walk away from a problem then you'll never get anywhere. In the grand scheme of things this really isn't particularly important so you shouldn't let it trouble you as much.

You can't change the fact you believe someone shafted you but you can try to change the procedure so they can't do it again. Go suggest some solutions or something if you really care about it.

There's probably a lot of people who applied and didn't get the position for various reasons. I wanted to do it as a way to fill up my CV a bit, but I don't agree with the way DNT is currently implemented so I assume that I would've still been denied regardless of if the rest of my application was fine. You're not the only one, try to at least make something positive out of it.

The staff team isn't the Sythe community. It may have some of the more friendly members in it but there's plenty of others out there who wouldn't have been part of that.

Eh, if i remember correctly the staff team have been shoeboxed into a 'dispute resolution' role or whatever the term Richard used is. They're not really representatives of the site anymore if they ever were.

Poke me with a notification if you come back, I'd be interested to know how that irl stuff you posted about a while back turns out. I've had uni on my mind for years but don't know what to study there so stories about that are always something I'd like to hear. Gives me ideas.

I would like to see you stay @Andy Samberg .

Don't let people get to you personally. I used to back in my muderator days and it impacted me IRL. Don't do it.

Though I guess there's a twinge of hypocrisy in my sentiments given leaving the website was by far the best decision I could have made.

And immediately you have to relinquish your adminship to him.

Then @Admires and him can ban scum like @str8 d a n k and the website can be saved.

Just take a dive Shinji. Take. A. Dive.

Out of curiosity, what was difficult to you about being on staff? I'm sure a lot have changed in five years but it just felt like busy work to me.

While not the same for everyone, it made me become addicted to the site, which I never really felt like I've been addicted to it before or after. It felt like I had to be online instead of wanting to be online. It's a bit more forgiving in 2017 than it was in 2015 because it sounds like the way your activity is weighed is a lot different now (no modscore for example).

The constant influx of messages and skype adds and impostors trying to scam off of using your name was pretty overwhelming as well. I was not used to that at all as I had a very small group of friends on the site and even fewer added on Skype. However I would say that was the most rewarding part of it, the friends I made and found because of it. Many people I talked to that I probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Ruling on scam reports was being put into a pressure cooker I was not used to, nor did I ever think I would have ever wielded that kind of power. I don't know, I definitely agree most of the time it felt like busy work but I tend to have a terrible habit of applying maximum intensity to the most menial of tasks. My personality + being a moderator were a dangerous combo because I would needlessly expend my time, energy, and resources into a website that had plenty of other users to take on the brunt of that. I felt pressured to carry my weight.

This all amplified by the fact that I shouldn't have even been allowed on the site. I was ban evading and never properly pardoned back in 2007. The guilt eventually finally became too much and I admitted to it all, granted with some prodding from external forces. Not sure without these external forces I'd have copped to it if I'm being brutally honest, addiction is addiction and it's hard to kick no matter what. My personal life was also in a state of turmoil during 2015. I was struggling with trying to figure out what I wanted to do after undergrad and I was burnt out on everything. An obsession with Sythe only amplified the problems.

So all very personal for me. But I see people with similar mindsets/personalities/attitudes getting upset over the moderator process and really think they should know that it isn't the end of the world. I think a lot of people underestimate the sudden exposure + intensity being a moderator demands. That sounds like a meme but I'm actually being serious. I cannot imagine how hard it was 5-10 years ago when Runescape and Sythe in general were at its peak. Respectable that you were able to handle such a job.

Like I would literally get Skype adds from people that I had banned on judgment from a scam report and talk with a few for hours because they'd start personally attacking me and I didn't have the personality of a FireZ or N4no to shrug it off and not let it bother me. It did bother me and I'd essentially sacrifice time doing other things just to address that. That's just one of many examples of how fucked up my prioritization was balancing life/Sythe.

That said I don't regret my time here at all. I've learned as many life lessons on here than I have in the actual real world. Coming back as DNT was a humbling experience and taught me that my shit does indeed stink. I don't ever think I got arrogant or let the power go to my head (in reality it is such a small amount of power lmao), but I definitely let myself get needlessly obsessed with the forum. I have an addictive personality in general. I get addicted to obscure random things. I will be introduced to something new and become obsessed with it and then lose interest over time.

Tis a gift and a curse to attack everything with 110 percent intensity. High productivity but also high burnout rate and feelings of personal failure if I don't live up to the gaudy expectations I set for myself.

Partially. I'd like to act altruistic and say that was 100 percent the reason, but I felt like the job itself is more difficult than one would think. Though I wouldn't say secrets, plural. Mainly just the ban evading lol. I didn't really feel the magnitude of how wrong it was until I got put into a position of power. At least as a forum pleb I could melt into the framework like all the other vaders.

For a guy like me that tries to please everyone, it's an impossible position to be in, literally.

It's why I'd make a horrible president of anything.

The only thing I was ever president of was the school store in elementary school. I ended up never going LOL. By the end of the year I wasn't even in the yearbook picture.

Perhaps Sythe modship was the redemption of failed school store 5th grade president.

It sounds like you took it very seriously-- which is respectable. Everyone has different management styles. Maybe reflecting on this experience and considering how it overwhelmed you could be a powerful life lesson. I'm not a stranger to being addicted to the site aha. I used to refresh like every minute, every day. (Back when I was wasting away as a teenager in my bedroom. Glad that chapter of my life is over.) I actually enjoyed being a moderator for the first time though. I could just be older, but things were different back then (June 2012 - Nov 2012 I think was my first time on staff.) We had a lot more tight-knit community, getting promoted was a pretty huge deal. I was also very depressed. I've always loved that about Sythe. We-- most of the ones who stick around for the community-- are really fucked up in our own ways. And it shows in everyone from time to time but no one really cares. Maybe you're a little outcast, maybe you have mental health issues, or want to pretend to be a girl, or seek personal validation through posting stupid selfies on gen discussion, or you're blade bro. We all came for the videojuegos and ended up intertwined here for some strange reason.

I'm going off on a tangent so ima stop but thanks for the insightful post.

Also OT: @Andy Samberg Sorry to see you go. I always thought you were a solid member and was disappointed not to see you get promoted.
