Off-Topic Rework

My concern is that the current off-topic section is spread too thin. Too many sub-forums all with discussion, but a limited amount of discussion and I think the best implementation for off-topic (specifically General Discussion) would be merging a majority of the child-forums under it. This would effectively consolidate the forms without removing much of the sections.

The suggestion:

Have one over-arching off-topic section of "General Discussion." Every post under off-topic will fall under general discussion and is able to be viewed under general discussion; however, there is still an option (sub-forum or through the tag system) to limit the threads down to certain topics (i.e. anime and manga).

The results as followed:

Each topic under General Discussion would appear under general discussion as well with the option of being filtered down. Ideally this would cause threads to receive more exposure, spurring conversations; however if someone wants to only view their section, they can still limit what they are seeing. Now, I don't know how much of this is feasible, but it's my suggestion.

tl;dr version is let's shrink the size of most of the sub-forums under General Discussion and have the opportunity to limit topics via tags (i.e. when making a thread, require the selection of like "media" tag and have that tag at the top of General Discussion for individuals to select to narrow threads).

I don't mind this at all.. seems a lot cleaner to me and just makes more sense.

Would media still have its separate subsections or no because I'm sure some people have expressed that they would not prefer a completely full merge.

Search various other threads in this section about how people have wanted off-topic changes.

 

Support, it would look a lot cleaner if condensed a bit. I like the idea of filtering.

 

I think it's fine how it is now. I actually like it with the couple changes I've seen to expand. No support.

i would prefer this to the current system. probably a little more disorganized but likely to contribute to increased discussion. kind of like a reddit subforum or something; generally on one topic (e.g., videos) but not super narrowly focused (e.g., anime shows)

Bump and @Sythe is such a tag frame-work even possible? If so, the suggestion could be extended to practically every section in some way or another.

Yes, talked to big rich and it does not seem feasible; however, going to write up a new format for Off-Topic which will be discussed/possibly implemented
