As it's something I voiced as alarming relying on just the reviews when I left, that's good to hear. The framework for what I proposed should be in SL somewhere if you're interested to run with it.

 

Yeah to participate in the community in the same capacity on top of performing moderator duties suddenly takes a lot of extra time devoted to the site which is why it doesn't happen with a lot of moderators.

In that sense one thing I was pushing for was a revamped modscore that would account for posting in sections, posting in SL on topics, creating topics as well and include that into modscore. Always been a firm believer that participation in the community as a member of staff is key.

New members are infatuated with the sight of a "high ranking member" responding to their posts. put poeple who know things about their section and have them encourage discussion. put the staff in the community instead of trying to remove them from it and have them oversee from above.

Most organisations use feedback models. We'll keep modscores which are glorified post counts because that's the type of community we have. No one likes change. Ya'll so resistant to change jagex had to resurrect an old version of runescape.

I'd like to move to a user feedback model where users can rate the staff interactions they have. So we would ideally have peer review and customer feedback.

To illustrate why these are better: you can close out 1000 scam reports and get a 1/10 for competence and attitude from your peers and a 2/10 for satisfaction from the users whose reports you closed. But the mod logs are giving you 5 stars for a 1 star performance.

We should have 1-3 mods per section depending on how popular/active that section is. That way everyone would do the same amount of work.

This would fix the issue you previously brought up (Staff morale because some do more than others)

Staff shouldn't be responsible for community stuff like programming sections. We have teams and groups which are not staff for those things. This allows users to enjoy themselves and focus on what they really want to do rather than staff drama.

The various team leaders we have already have some staff-perms in certain subsections. Think that's a step in the right direction.

So that the sections can be proactively moderated instead of reactively moderated. People who are active in the sections under stand them best and can come up with rules for the section and enforce them properly. They can decide they need to change something and just do it instead of asking someone else to do it. You are also empowering them and giving people an incentive to post in their favorite sections because they want mod and once they are mod they have an incentive to stick around and to do a good job so that they might get global. Staff gives a lot of incentives and keeps people around and has a lot of useful features that aren't really about moderating or just clearing spam
