I found this site from childhood memories of buying my first few mill to buy some rune swag. But I think there are many new RuneScape players who have no idea Sythe exists.

Would a few targeted ads help revive this marketplace? Maybe a pot where users can donate to each month, with the mod organising the ads?

 

Support sythe could use the advertising via targeted google ad’s/sponsorships

 

Where on the list is it sir? I also can't see any other threads?

@Sythe can provide you with said reasoning, although, IIRC, it was due to advertising in the past not proving worthwhile/fruitful for the time and cost involved.

 

Then those ads were ineffective right? Theres plenty of rs players who need to buy gold/skilling done. Just needs to be marketed right.

 

Theoretically sure. In practicality, the resulting metrics (revenue generated, user-base growth, etc) and cost of advertising was not worth said campaign.

I doubt it's an issue of needing to be done right, more so in the orbit of cost vs reward.

Also, you imply the marketplace is dead by stating 'revive' - do you have any numbers to demonstrate this? Also, what metrics/qual/quant factors are you using to determine the marketplace being dead? @Sythe generally has this data on hand, and has shared it in the past, so perhaps he can provide more insight.

I didn't mean to insinuate Sythe is dead. Just to increase numbers from the 200-300 I've seen (OSRS Reddit has 8k online atm, plenty of those fuckers buy gold, and would benefit from knowing about sythes cheaper gold when compared to bogla).

And I guess a lot of the profit goes to the sellers/servicers. Hence the community pot idea. But then we'd be faced with the free rider problem.

It's very possible the reward vs time and money expended wouldn't be worthwhile.

On the other hand a lot weighs on when those ad campaigns were ran and using what targeting metrics . In the last 2 years alone targeted marketing has improved leaps and bounds, and with a niche market such as Sythe.org that's exactly what's needed.

For example with today's marketing you can specifically set up fallback ads for people who do Google "buy runescape gold" . Meaning if someone Googles that, the next time they are on YouTube, that ad could play.

Or you can directly target niches such as adults age 18-28 who like Runescape.


Is there a profitable ad campaign possible? Yes, but is it worth doing for sythe.org who doesn't have any centralized services to offer? Probably not.


New users who want to buy gold would certainly add to the site's economy, become potential donors ect. But with paid advertising sythe would be paying anywhere form 50 cents or more CPC (cost per click through).

In a standard business model you would then weigh that to your conversion rate of say 8% to estimate each customer cost and your lifetimes customer value. Easily making profitable market campaigns and learning quickly which aren't profitable at scale. However as i said sythe.org is missing a large part of the equation in the lifetime customer value calculation.


The reality is a ad endeavor could be extremely successful, but it's by no means a home run.

 

Where are you suggesting the ads are posted?

There was a Public Relations team awhile back and they tried to advertise via social media but
the issue was alot of users don't want their social medias tied to black market forums.

I support the advertisement of Sythe but where to advertise would be the main issue.

 

If there is an interest I'd happily do more research. I'd guess Reddit/Twitch/Google. All very powerful tools.

The main question is cost/benefit/funds from where?

I could be wrong here (I don't watch many RS YT videos), but couldn't open advertisement of a blackmarket website lead to the YT'ers being banned?

yeah, ive always seen gold sites advertise like this so it must bring some kind of attention, advertising as the cheapest +all the extra stuff may actually be worthwhile
