Disclaimer: This is somewhat a serious thread and I can't think of a good place to put it, feel free to spew whatever you want.

I've been mulling over this for a while. What are the chances or probability of genuine new users (users that never registered here before) specifically with RS interests being immersed in the market to a degree above moderate in 2016 with them not knowing of this site or only choosing to register now?

Under these circumstances it seems practically impossible, but I'm going with less than 5%.

If we banned newly registered users who fall under this, we would effectively be making the right call in suggesting they've been here before, more so banned at a rate above 90%. Not saying we should, but it really puts things in perspective about the growth of the site.

Runescape isn't attracting new members as far as I know which while Sythe is still a runescape based forum means no new members for sythe, only re-hashed ones. Until we diversify which I'll push for after xen I don't imagine too many users are truly new or they are new but get discouraged after scams or what have you.

I think we peaked the quality cap for genuine users about the same time frame when eoc was introduced. The number of genuine users who don't use the market above a level of moderate I assume would be much higher than 5%, but it's still a concern considering these are the users who are actively trading and those on the receiving end are more susceptible to getting scammed.

Here's to hoping xen does the site some good in that regard.

New sub sections come and go all the time, it's subtle but we've been trying to figure something out since like 2007 lol. WoW did well for a bit but now even that's been turned to shit. The CS:GO market is doing OK. That might be a good base to settle on in the future.

Opening a section isn't enough. I can't just open a store randomly and expect people to come to it and know what I sell. At the moment, there isn't a reason for anyone who plays any other game besides RS to come to Sythe. The layout of the forum represents, it. Ranks represent it. When I was WoW mod (yay we beat the wow mod curse) the damn ranks had santa hats in them and barely had anything to do with WoW besides the big "W" in the middle.

The forum, the sections, and what we cater to isn't very open to any games that aren't called "RuneScape". I think opening sections, and allowing discussions would be a good start though. At the moment we just have a clusterfuck of shit in a section called "Other Games" where the most commonly bumped threads are people's first iPhone apps. I think we just need to give some love to the sections that we aren't thriving in, so we can become a much more well-rounded site. I've tried offering suggestions but it's hard to really implement anything past opening discussion sections.

I am a strong proponent of breaking up the "Other Games Section". I feel like a lot of the activity in sections died down once we stopped separating by game and just lumped everything in together. I think a GOOD start once we move over to Xen would be implementing posting incentives, and placing a stronger incentive in sections that aren't as active as others to have users post in sections that they haven't visited as much. Very similar, if not identical to the suggestion you made with miniranks, with a small mix of Ghast's point system thrown in there.

I want to see Sythe thrive long-term, and sticking with a game that isn't drawing in new players isn't the way to go. I have been saying this for years, as have people who have come before, and after me.

Toast, I'd love you to note down any thoughts you have that would aid in a transition. I'll be crowd-sourcing ideas from the community as to how a shift could best be achieved after xen is implemented.

100% agree. Made a similar suggestion...ppl seem kinda open, but I don't know what change will actually take place.

I think a big part of the difficulty isn't only that the people here only like runescape, people come here to make money. And Runescape is one of the best games to do that. You notice that the games that have seemed to take hold here are ones where people are profiting. So I think introducing new games with very little opportunity for profit isn't appealing to the current community. And the best way to get new ppl IMO is to go against the grain a bit of the current community. That's kind of why my suggestion was to morph out of "Craigslist of Virtual Goods" into a gaming community for many games with the market(CraigsList of Virtual Goods) as a afterthought, not the main attraction. Seems to be in line with your thinking, but I could be wrong.

I'd love to man. A lot of what I'm thinking is banking off of whether it is even possible or if anyone has any intentions of implementing those systems I was talking about in the suggestions section. I obviously have a few other thoughts that don't revolve around those, but I think the best ideas would incorporate parts of those suggestions.
