Can anyone recommend a good USED car?

My boyfriend doesn't know how to drive, but I am teaching him. I want to buy him a car in 4 to 5 months, but I want a used one. I need one that is reliable and is cheap to repair. I'm looking to spend under 2k for it because it will be his first ride. I heard Toyota is an amazing car with a great reputation for lasting a long time.

Toyota Corolla or Echo are both good choices for cheap reliable transportation.

 

As Loyal said, Corolla's are good. Pretty much any low end Toyota will be good (they are so many and they're all somewhat similar). Alternatively Honda Civic's are pretty good too but depending on the model it can be a bitch finding replacement parts for them.

 

Anything thats very common, get a good 6cyl and keep up with oil changes and itll last you years

i always vouch for the VW jetta's. you can get a wonderful one even for around 2K just don't try to aim for a newer one. just make sure it's in good shape etc, get them to get safety and emissions done on it (not sure how it works outside of canada). out of all the people i know the jetta's served a great life within them and didn't break down often, or rarely. you can also go with honda accord, civic, theres plenty to choose. i just vouch for VW Jetta

 

I would go with an old Toyota Corolla. I've had friends that have pushed theirs past 300,000 miles. It is relatively inexpensive to maintain and they get great gas mileage. They aren't the prettiest, but they get you from point A to point B.

 

I'm driving an 03 corolla right now and I've never had problems with it. Look along the lines of a yaris, corolla, or Camry. If you're looking Honda, definatley go for the civic, you can get cheap ones that you can basically drive into the ground.

 

Anything Toyota is awesome. Get a standard transmission to teach him on that. Not enough of this generation know how to drive a stick

You should consider an older Honda Accord! They are amazing, me and my brother both had one growing up with 300,000+

I have a Honda civic. It takes $25 to fill it up when it is empty. The tank lasts me forever, or around ~5-6 hours of STRAIGHT driving. It has 4 doors, which is nice for space and piling people in. It has never broke down on me either. It's also cheap for a decent car, mine is all black with a few scratches and non-noticeable dings and it was only $1,200. Hope that helps!

Cavalier m8, it has four doors, cheap gas, and can rip.
Also it's easy to find parts.

 

The old Passat diesels are built like tanks.

In my experience toyota's have treated me extremely well. ive owned 5 or 6 in my life and havent had a bad one yet. They are extremely good cars. However you can always buy a bad one thats been run down and never taken care of. I would advice bringing someone with experience. My dad sold cars for 20+ years and i myself worked for a ford dealership for 2 years. Ive grown up buying and selling cars, I know what to look for.

 

Can't go wrong with toyota.

 

toyota/honda are best for first cars, cars good on gas as well.

 

I would also say toyota or honda, My friend had a 94 accord that had almost 300k miles when he sold it, and its still going.
