A lot of promising updates for 2016 so I dont think either games will die aytime soon or lose players drastically. I do think rs3 might keep losing players due to all these microtransactions though.

There is still one hope. They potentially have the ultimate mobile game if they can get it running on IOS we could have another golden age.

I dont see the splits actually making a huge impact as you'd think it would. osrs gets decently good updates to keep it going as much as the other game mode/styles they have. It has plenty of life still imo.

Not a veteran on here but started playing in 05.
I agree and think that splitting the community was a bad idea, doesn't take a genius to look at the player numbers/base and see it's been decreasing for some time.
Personally I think that's why they did the unbanning accounts that got caught botting but was hijacked at the time. Need player numbers to increase.

I really enjoy 07, the nostalgia aspect makes it fun, if that had DarkScape for 07 I would rinse that too.

07 seems to have a strong player base going for it. I mean, the only people who play RS3 nowadays are just the veterans still grinding for 120's/200M's.

The 07 team seem to be bringing out consistent updates and the community over there is strong.

I think Invention will help keep a lot of older players, and honestly might bring a lot of players back to RS3, even if they make new accounts for it, since so much new content is coming out. Plus since they said they're doing even more events for the 15th Anniversary lasting throughout the entire year, I bet we'll have a great time in the year to come!

You are wrong about 07, it will never die. Old school rs has brought back many vets that quit after eoc update. Old school will last much longer than RS3 due to polling that actually affects the game.
RS3 has been dying for years. Mass quits due to EoC and sof. Mass botting has reduced a shitton of items down to alch price.

If you look at what the tubers or streamers are covering its mostly old school rs.
As of right now deadman mode is hype tho.

I agree to this. Gambling will make Runescape fun again. Its sad because I started hosting dicing the day before they removed it. It was still fun while it lasted though.

I have to disagree with you here.

The novelty of deadman mode will wear off.

As for OSRS, it's playerbase will flatline, if it hasn't already - who wants to play a game in this day with graphics quality like that? It exists solely for the veterans. As more and more quit due to IRL reasons and general boredom with the game (bound to happen), the playerbase will decline, yes it will eventually die.

As far as I see it, RuneScape will die when Call of Duty dies.

Honestly, I see RS3 dying out way faster than OSRS, but both are going to die out eventually. No game lasts forever.

That being said, the introduction of EOC is literally what killed the game.

RS3 is basically dead, no one enjoys playing it besides a very small select few.

The game had the most player count pre-eoc around 2009-2011

rs3 is far from dead... Many very large clans, many solo players... However, yes, it's got less players than it did before EoC.

I personally prefer the game as it is now. Pre EoC combat got VERY boring. With abilities, I can focus on timing and actually play the game instead of clicking a mob and watching youtube until I hear it die.

I believe the future of RS is pretty good. Pretty constant updates to both games. Elite Skill in January, another one planned for 2017... Invention seems like it'll bring a whole new economy and level of fun to the game, once I take the time to max it lol.

They've did incredibly well to keep what is essentially a click based online game active and relevant for the past 10 years, and I think everyone who has played for a long period would agree it's been one of the best games they will ever play. Sadly though, it's a bit of a past time for many people and just doesn't pick up new players on a mass scale anymore.

Agreed, RS3 is still pretty active, but its a long shot from what the game was 7 years ago, player wise.

Probably because the loss of players was gradual, and not an instant disappearance. Just remembering the numbers, seeing 200k people online down to 50k people online proves a huge drop in playerbase.

There have even been a few charts made by players showing the decline in players of the main game.

    This, so much.

It's pretty much dead... I remember when each of my accounts had 5 people online at least... sometimes.

    Now it's 0.
Never, nobody.. so yeah, and if someone was online recently, it's 07. Not RS3.

The loyal players that Jagex wants to cater hate gambling. It'd be extremely retarded to bring it back.

This was the case for me in pre-EoC and before that (2007/2008) as well, returning from any kind of hiatus. People move on, delete inactives from their friendslist, etc. It's no surprise that you don't have a bustling friends list when you have people added from years ago.
