I also disagree with keeping ban reasons private unless it risks the irl identity of the individual. But I see absolutely no reason why we can't get the dirty details of an alias.

It makes things shady and dishonest in a place where trustworthiness, transparency, and integrity are most important.

I don't have a say, but that's what I think.

 

My ban reason was kept private out of courtesy those few years back, so depending on the situation the staff will keep it private for you (although if it's for something related to scamming / malicious activity, I doubt they'd keep it quiet).

Either way, we'll probably find out what happened soon enough.

 

But what does it hurt to release any kind of information about an alias? I can totally see releasing info about a irl person, but about an alias does no harm.

 

Because there's a real person behind that alias? Maybe because nothing like this has never happened to you, you can't see it from their side.

 

I must agree I don't really understand why the ban reason is kept private, but I guess it's just how things are.

 

Sometimes situations are on-going and are still being discussed or investigated. It's difficult to release a reason when we may be wrong or new evidence may come to light, etc. It's generally just less of a mess for everything to get sorted out first, and then announce things later.

 

That's the entire point of an alias is that it protects the person behind it. There's no harm in releasing the truth about an alias UNLESS the person behind the alias is revealed. So basically to withhold information about ban reasons is to protect an alias, which is something that isn't a person and needs no protection. Only real life information and reputation need protecting.

 

If the info is to be released for sure once the case is closed then I can see this as a valid reason. I think even if you are wrong the info should still be disclosed so people have that much more information about the parties involved to make decisions about future deals and so that the vibe of the website is that of honesty.

I agree ban reasons should be kept quiet in circumstances. The staff could be completely wrong or not fully informed about all of the issues because they are still talking with parties involved. It also stops the user from getting roasted by the community if there are still questions revolving about what happened.

 

Any other posts regarding the release of ban reasons will be infracted, that is not the point of this thread.

When it comes down to it, there's simply no reason for you to know. If you feel someone's ban affects you, feel free to contact a staff member and we will determine if you're in need of knowing the information.

Leaking someone's ban reason is the same as leaking their personal information, and we will ban for it. If you want to cry and/or debate this, direct yourself to the feedback forum.
