Sythe Gaming League - Season 1 Pitch

Hello all, I am looking into morphing my http://www.sythe.org/community-general/1732393-ideas-possible-competition.html into a full fledged, multi-season, Sythe Gaming League.

Here is my pitch for the league, along with prizes available

Please take the time to read my full pitch, if possible:

    1. PRIZES: The total prize pot for Season 1 will be 1 Billion Runescape 3 gold. How this will be distributed has not yet been decided. I will very likely have the top 3 of the league win GP (Paypal/RS 07 Equivalent will VERY likely be an option). It is also likely that every competitor will get a small sum of gold as a token of appreciation towards participating - however - let's see how many people sign up before I can make this promise. :p - I am funding this league's prizes myself, out of pocket, and will do so for subsequent seasons - if the first season is indeed successful.

    2. How the league will work & format - This will not be your typical Sythe tournament. I call it a league because it functions more like a league than a tournament. Usually, a tournament abides by a very rigid set of rules and competitors usually only have 1 or 2 losses they can suffer before they are out for good. This will not be the case for my Sythe League. My league will run approximately 1 to 3 months, depending on how much content I want to feature during a given season.

Now, the league will run on a point based standing system. The top 3 point leaders at the end of a season will be crowned the winners, with first place obviously getting a substantial portion of the prize pool. All of my competitions will be on games that are easily playable (meaning not very spec intensive) and will be on the PC. Season 1's game list has been roughly created, I am positive it will include Tankball 2, Yu-Gi-Oh! (Dueling Network likely), and Haxball.

Now, winners for a tournament will get 15 pts for 1st, 10 pts for second, and 6 pts for third. Everyone else will receive 1 pt for participation. This one participation point will be forfeited if the user does not participate in their match and has to be automatically eliminated. This serves to punish inactivity.

Other ways to earn points: I will allow 2 sythe users to agree to any game related competition they want, for a 1v1 battle. I have not yet decided how many 1 v 1 battles one user can exhaust per month, but it will definitely be limited --- the winners of this league are going to be the best and most consistent players in the games that I host. My hopes are that I can feature 3 different tournaments in one season, and Sythe users can use the 1v1 system to help supplement their points or use them as a way to make a come back in the standings. 1v1's can be anything from a Runescape staking session to a game of Fifa on Xbox. This will add an interesting dynamic to the league, because those dedicated towards winning can significantly bolster their chances of winning if they perform well in 1v1s.

If there is a dispute between results and evidence is inconclusive, the 1v1 will not count and further sanctions may apply such as dismissal from the competition or a point reduction (this would only be if clear malice or deceit was evident).

Amendment to 1v1's: Users will only be able to play each other once throughout the entire season. This eliminates any possibility of "boosting" someone for points. It also forces users to interact with more than just one other user, as well as challenges them to play a variety of different games (For example, 1 person may be amazing at Halo, but only 1 other person is willing to accept their challenge for that particular game).

So, to clarify, here is the point system:
I Bleed Duke Blue Hosted Tournament (Likely 2-3 games per season):
    15 pts to winner
    10 pts to 2nd place
    6 pts to 3rd place

1v1 Battles (This will likely be capped at 2-3 per month per member, not yet decided)
    3 pts to winner
    0 pts to loser

Dismissal from the competition will be executed if users are found cheating. Because cheating has not been a big problem in Sythe competitions, I am trusting people to play fairly and abide by the rules. I will give final judgment on any disputes, but will also likely go to a third party such as an admin or another reputable member who is not partaking in my league.

This thread serves two purposes, the first is to fine-tune this format until it is perfected, through suggestions and my own later thoughts. The second is to express interest if you think that a Sythe gaming league would be something you'd like to participate in.

To address any concerns you may have: I realize that this is quite a large task for one person to handle, but I am ready to handle it. It is really just a monster sized version of a normal sythe tournament, yet the prizes are considerably larger as well as the content. I realize that coordinating these tournaments will be quite challenging, but I am ready for the challenge. Also, do not worry about people signing up and then not playing. This league will be forced to take swift action on inactivity. Inactive players won't be barred from later competitions, but they will forfeit any possible pts they can earn from the tournament they don't play in, including the 1 pt awarded simply for playing. I have not yet set a deadline on when matches must be met, as I must meticulously plan this part.

There are a lot of variables that go into deciding this: differing time-zones for players, availability on the internet, availability around real life events, etc. I am thinking that there will probably be a 3 day grace period. This would then be designed to have a competition end no later than a month before it started. I hate putting a deadline on things, but the league won't be able to function properly if inactive players aren't eliminated from tournaments. I'd much rather have a fun, competitive 6 person league than an inactive 100 person league.

So, who is interested? Also feel free to recommend any PC, low intensive games that we can play besides Yugioh or Tankball 2 (That I would host, meaning 15 pts at stake)

Feel free to make suggestions on what the point system should be, if you don't think the current outlined plan is fair.

    Planned Tournaments for Season 1:
    Tankball 2
    Yu-Gi-Oh
    Haxball

    Planned 1 v 1's : Literally anything you want!

    Thanks!

I'm really really interested on this one. We can try this out with a few free multiplayer games from steam. It's an amazing idea. Would love to know some good games. What games are you thinking about? Only Yugioh and Tankball?

Nope, any game for PC is fair game. Glad you're interested man.

The only real things I'd like to see for the PC games are low intensive, meaning 95 percent of computers could run it without a problem. B: Decent multiplayer to the point where coordinating games won't be a problem based on lag or server downtime. C: Free - I want everyone to have a chance :)

    Thanks again man

Sounds like fun! I'll definitely be participating :)

As far as the point system goes, how much influence do you want the 1v1 battles to have on the outcome of the league? If the season is spanning 2-3 months, and you only have 2-3 hosted tournaments in that season, it seems like a lot of weight is being put on the 1v1's. With the winner getting 3 points per battle, and having a max of 2-3 battles per MONTH, it seems like a winner could be decided soley based on the results of the 1v1's. Maybe reduce the amount of 1v1's allowed per month? Or increase the points awarded to the top finishers in the hosted tournaments?

Just my two cents, thanks for doing this!

Yes, this makes sense. I think I will likely limit it to a maximum of 2 1 v 1's a month. The point system, at this point, is not a concern. I will iron out that kink fairly qucikly. Right now, I want to gauge interest and see how many people I'd be looking at.

    Thanks for the support.

Sythe Gaming League - Season 1 Pitch

First-drafts are usually going to be convoluted. I typed this pitch as I thought of the ideas, it is a rough-draft. I did not actually formulate this in advance.

The gist of the League is this: It will last anywhere from 1-3 months, depending on a few variables- like how fast tournaments are decided and how many people are participating. Top 3 wins. There will be leaderboards. I will host 3 tournaments, with a revised 15-10-6 pts awarded respectively for the top 3.

1 v 1s will be an OPTIONAL way of earning pts - 2 users agree on a gaming related competition (such as a Fifa match or a staking duel in RS) - The one versus one will be APPROVED by me before it happens, so I can keep track - or users can simply quote to confirm any 1 v 1. There will be 3 pts for the winner and 0 for the loser. Also to amend this: 1 v 1s between the same two users can only happen ONCE per month. This will avoid potential attempts at cheating or "boosting" others. If I suspect someone of boosting, they may be forfeited. I may even make it so 2 users can only 1v1 each other once during the whole season - to force people to interact with different people if they want as many 1v1 pts as possible (6-9 pts possible pts/month if someone went 2-0 or 3-0, users may only play 2-3 1v1s a month, haven't decided limit)

Also, please say what is convoluted, not just that it's convoluted. That's not really constructive feedback...if I had something that you pin-pointed, I could help clarify it. Despite my first post being lengthy, I tried to address all points clearly + in depth so as to avoid confusion. If a specific part sounded confusing, please let me know.

Also, this league is multifaceted and thus inherently it will be a little more detailed than your average Sythe tournament. I must be sure to cover all my bases BEFORE the actual event so as to have as little hiccups as possible.

Oh, and I'm not trying to be a smart-ass or anything, I just truly want to know what potential areas are hard to understand. I tend to be a bit too detailed at times and explain things in 10 words that I could really explain in 5. Sort of like that sentence I just typed, lmfao. But seriously, I want people to feel COMFORTABLE with the rules. The only reason the first post is so long is to address any contingency I could possibly see.

Edit to all: I've gone through the first post and tried to be more specific and put in bold the main gist of my League.

Sythe Gaming League - Season 1 Pitch

Okay, I have tried to clarify everything as easily as I can.

Here are details I KNOW will be set in stone:
Season 1 of Sythe Gaming League will last 3 months.
    I will hold 1 tournament a month.
Prize Pool: 1 Billion RS 3 GP (Conversion option to PP or OSRS likely)
Tournament threads will be created separately, so as to remain organized and focused.
Leaderboards will be updated in real time, on the League's official sign-up page (This will be coming soon).
Users will be able to play 2-3 1 v 1 matches per month. The time that this number resets will be set in stone and the SAME for everybody.
At the conclusion of Season 1, the top 3 people on the leaderboards will share in the 1 billion GP prize. The first place user will receive a large portion of this prize, but the 2nd and 3rd place users will also be handsomely rewarded for their efforts.
If season 1 is successful, it will be renewed for a second season.
    Point System: A tournament I hold: 1st place =15 pts 2nd place =10 pts 3rd place = 6 pts
    A 1 v 1 battle (limit 2-3 a month) Winner= 3 pts Loser=0 pts
