So me and my girlfriend got into an accident a couple months ago hitting an elk, ever since then shes been nervous to drive (and I understand that) but it seems to be a bit much. It wasn't a hugely serious accident and we both walked away from it injury free.

Now I understand the psychology about her not wanting to drive at night and the basic fears of it, but its been two months. I've tried talking to her about it, and sometimes going out on the highway (going about 70 in a 100 zone) and she dosent want to do it at all.

For me it was really simple, It could happen again tomorrow or it could not happen for 25 years. When driving I did everything I could right (and that's why we walked away from the accident) and I have no issues with driving at night. Obviously my girlfriend is seeing this differently, Do I just need to give her more time or?

Women tend to be more sensitive/traumatic about these kind of things than man, so maybe just give her more time because two months in your head may seem alot but maybe for her it feels like it happened just yesterday. I know none of you got injured and that's the most important, but from the pictures I can understand that it could be rather traumatic for her, after all there is an elk's liver or heart or whatever that is lying on your car floor, and some people are just more sensitive than others.

Just insist with her that it was not the driver's resposibility at all, as you were driving safely, it was just bad luck and it may happen at 40km/h or at 140km/h, by day or by night, it's just random and unrelated to driving skills. I don't know what else you can do besides this and giving her some more time to process mate, good luck :)

    Very true!
I was riding my bike to work a few weeks ago and got hit by a car. I was rushed to the hospital but had no major injuries. I was out of work for a couple weeks and my leg it STILL swollen to hell. But my girlfiend is the same way. Hell, I can barely ride up the street to 711 or something without her constantly worrying. But ya know, it's love man. She obviously cares about you and just wants you both to be safe. But I promise, it'll fade with time! :D

Definitely give her more time. My Fathers wife struggles from Travel Anxiety. She can't leave her hometown where she has lived her whole life without going into a huge meltdown. My Father eventually got her out of it, but now she's back to having it again.

My Father helped her overcome this illness by supporting her throughout it, and working with her every day to overcome it.

I know this doesn't really help you but, my Dad never gave up with trying to help her overcome it.

Your girlfriend might not overcome this driving fear she has tomorrow, in a month, or year. But taking it slow and helping her through this each day as it come.
