What's so scary about that? They're wearing gas masks because they need to survive on the island. Not all of them are wearing gas masks if you look closely.

And fyi, the island only became extremely sulphurous after a volcanic eruption. The residents are actually paid to stay there by scientists who wish to examine the effects of living long term with a gas mask on.

If you go to a country without finding out anything about it, then you're an idiot. Before you book a flight/ship there you'd learn that most of the inhabitants walk around in gas masks anyway.

Why would you be scared? They are people walking towards you while wearing gas masks. Nothing more, they are not possessed or anything... And that's great if you find the gas masks scary, but some people such as Shoop and I see them as what they are - gas masks.

I suppose it's just like going to a country in the Middle East and seeing the women wear black hijaabs (I think that's what they're called) that cover their whole face and the men wear turbans...

It may be "scary" and unsettling at first but I'd image one would get used to it over time...
