Say there was a transplant available to give you a robotic prosthetic limb(s) with super-human abilities. Things like legs that can move really fast or arms with the strength to bend metal, etc. The body part and the prosthetic would look exactly the same.

would you get a transplant to get a body part replaced with a mechanical part? What part of your body? What would be the purpose of the robotic(such as the extra strength of robotic arms)? Do you think this form of cyborg will ever exist?

I would get the transplant, honestly not sure which body parts I'd get. But sadly I doubt technology will ever go far enough to allow such transplants as to let the general public have access to them for an affordable price (I guess around fake boob price?) because I expect the world will end in some kind of nuclear war before that level of science can be obtained.

Not unless my current limbs became unusable. Maybe a robotic penis when I get erectile dysfunction.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was thinking this.

I wouldn't replace any of my limbs unless it was necessary. Also, they've been working on this for a long time and have made quite a lot of progress. Probably within the next 20 years at least we will see something close if not the exact same to what you described. The price will eventually be decent too because of Moore's law.

This kind of thing makes me laugh. What are you going to do with biceps that can curl 1 ton of metal when your shoulders will dislocate under the strain? What are you going to do with arms, pecs, and deltoids that can lift 10 tons over your head when your back will give out under the pressure? What are you going to do with an entirely bionic upper body when your legs wouldn't be able to handle the weight of the prosthetic alone? What are you going to do with legs that can run 30 miles per hour when your abdomen is unable to keep your upper body erect under the air resistance alone?

The real question should be, would you transplant your brain into a machine and forgo your human body? Because no single muscle or limb acts independent of the rest of your body. Transplanting one for the sake of super-human capabilites is implausible.

Getting a prosthetic with human-like capabilities to replace missing limbs makes much more sense.

They have already created, robotic arms for amputees anyway.
I watched something on the discovery channel a year or maybe more ago and the technology was available then.
They're a lot more advanced in these things than people think, it's just not publicised as the news mainly focus on bad stories, rather than uplifting stories.

Obviously they don't create them so people can lift stupid amounts of weight because as Mohtasa said, your shoulders etc would dislocate.

So this post isnt "show me how this cant be possible cuz ur a dick" its about hypotheticals not facts... but just to glorify your brains with some thought, you miss alot of points in your post... y have arms that can lift 10 tons but would destroy your back? Well thats simple...

I would use robotic arms to crush the skulls of those who would rather act like pricks than enjoy a fun conversation. And before you start looking it up, this would be possible without ruining the robotic users own body, as it only takes 15 - 16 pounds of pressure per square inch to cause a fracture in a skull.

This was meant to be a fun post guys, see the fun not the facts.

    Infracted.

Well then state that in your original post.

So then this post is ACTUALLY "would you replace your super human body with a super human body?" since you're basing the conversation on "hypotheticals", rather than facts

Excuse me if I don't see the point in conversing about ludicrousness presumptions, excuse my attempt to salvage the conversation with a more realistic and applicable theme!

But, pray tell, what points did I miss?

I didn't know I could be infracted for being rude. Guess I'll put my kiddie pants back on.

You said what am I gonna do with arms that couldnt lift blah blah without it dislocating your shoulders... the point u missed as it could easily still be used to crush peoples skulls... crumble bricks inside the palm of ur hand... Being to serious and reading into it can quickly ruin a fun post, and I dont see many new posts on this site anymore, try to enjoy them while their around for people to do so. (Look, I'm not being rude anymore :O)

Either way, this subject has gotten way off track... I asked if people would get these robotic prosthetics if it was possible and why? For future reference of people posting here, heres an example:

I think I've decided I would go with robotic left arm that could transform into some kind of laser gun or energy cannon, something like that. And a robotic left eye with differemt abilities like heat mapping, night vision, database that can bring up information on anyone I look at with the eye, etc. I would get them in order to be a protector of my people or to do some kind of "human-hunting" for the government or something lol

Why would anyone want to replace their hands with robots that can crush rocks and bones? That is neither super human, nor desirable since both can be done with a hammer or another blunt object. If you're a soldier, you wouldn't be able to get close enough because guns > skull-crushing hands. It just doesn't make sense to me when it's in no way plausible

Looks like you only read half of my post... but either way, I'd appreciate it if you quit posting on this thread, as it appears I am no longer aloud to be rude on this website and may not be able to refrain from being such if you continue to post here.

But I will answer one last question for you... why have robotic arms with laser cannons and atomic missiles attached? cuz it just sounds cool as fuck. simple at that.

Maybe it sounds cool, but did you ever consider the ramifications of having nuclear material integrated into your still-partially organic body? Do you know what radiation does to soft tissue? And also, there's no such thing as laser cannons. I figured, talking about prosthetics, you intended to have SOME scientific background to your musings, not complete fantasy...

And if it were discovered that laser cannons were even physically possible, the logistics of where you'd store the energy source for not only the prosthetics but for this laser cannon of yours would be impossible unless you also think it'd also be super cool to carry an enormous battery or generator around on your back.

Silly me, of course it's pure fantasy! I've lost sight of my true qualm with the topic of this thread. And that is: no matter how far you can possibly stretch fantasy, a human body would still be unable to withstand the strain produced from the enhanced workload you'd be subjecting your prosthetic limbs to

How have you made it so far on this site? Your points are EXACTLY why this is a sci-fi thread and not a realism thread... If I made a thread about dragons or unicorns would you spam the entire first page of the thread about how they arent real? Seriously, does Sythe just let anyone become a mod now?

This whole thread got fucked. I made it for people to have fun and think about what they would do IF it was possible, not people to bitch about why its NOT possible...

The Japanese have created a robot-accessory system named HAL that features assistance with moving limbs. It was created for the disabled and elderly; they have it already implemented in some Japanese hospitals helping hospital-bound patients move around. Of course, it's only exterior, so it's more like an accessory or armor if you will.
