I don't think you understand the definition of giving. Usually, when you donate to a site, for the appreciate of the said site, you do it for the sake of appreciation and not getting an advertisement. You purchased something from Sythe.org, but that does not mean you "gave" to it, or at least in the sense that MMA meant. Without your gracious donation of buying an advertisement, I'm pretty sure Sythe would have still been able to sell said advertisement.

i was around when r2pleasent was pretty much the only global active on sythe for months. he was pretty much the reason why the globals stayed afloat during that time and did a bunch for sythe then.

There's an example of a big donator using their donation for the exact same purpose. If we're handing out ranks for donations, and these ranks provide status for gold sellers, then essentially the donations are marketing tools for users. So really, the only difference between paying for advertising (which goes 100% to Sythe) and a donation (which goes 100% to Sythe) is that advertising space is limited. But it all goes to the same place. And both of these things benefit the buyer in the same fashion.

Also have given hundreds of hours of my time to moderating, back before 90% of you kids even used this site. I was a Mod for about 3 years on Sythe, until Finn + Pen pushed me out of my position.

This site runs on ads, not donations. Donations make up ~5% of Sythe revenue. And donations are used the same way as ads are, to increase people's sales.

 

Not everyone uses it. People have the option to have it as a sincere help to the site versus a market tool.

Right, but again, there are limited ad spots as you said, and the money would be made whether or not a member of the community purchases an ad, and therefore, it's not really giving to the site.

That, however, I do consider giving.
