Should abortion be legal or illegal?

Here are my thoughts. I didn't come up with this old argument but I believe it's quite good.

Say I'm a demolitionist and I'm about to blow up a building. You ask me if there is anyone in the building and I respond, "I don't know." Should I blow up the building?

No, of course I shouldn't. Then you tell me to check if anyone is in there. I respond by telling you that there isn't enough time and I have to either make the decision to blow up the building or not.

The safest response is to not blow up the building until we can be sure that no one is in the building.

Now with abortion, we don't know whether a fetus is a human being or not, so it's all up to speculation. Ending the life of a fetus might be ending the life of a human, so shouldn't abortion be illegal?

Looking for intelligent refutes. Don't flame.

I don't think it should be.. I mean if someone doesn't want the baby anymore, then they don't?

So if a woman is raped, or a victim of incest, or the baby is going to cause irreversible damage or death then she should have to subject herself to having that baby? Late term abortions I don't really agree with, but if the woman is going to be killed, or she has fallen under the previous circumstances mention then I don't think it should be illegal. It isn't my place to tell someone what they should do with their body. Your analogy is irrelevant and has no bearing on any intelligent argument for illegalization of abortion. It would be like the government trying to outlaw contraceptives, which has been tried. That is what birthed a case in Connecticut that eventually led to the Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion.

This is a grey area which many politicians tend to avoid. Whilst many countries do allow abortion to take place, there are religious groups who strongly are against abortion.

I believe the issue of abortion been legal or illegal will stay for a long time.

Personally, I abhor abortion. But if you say that you were been raped and is therefore been forced into it, then perhaps abortion is the best solution. If you were willingly involved in pre-marital sex and wants to go for abortion, then you are irresponsible.

In conclusion, prevention is better than cure. Do not take part in pre-marital sex just because you have the impulse to. This goes to both male and females.

I dont think it shud be legal i mean cmon ur taking a human life its next to murder think of what that child could have become
I'm thinking, and Hitler springs to mind.

It doesn't matter, what's wrong with taking the life of a Homo sapien?

You abhor abortions but say they're ok if someone was raped? This is o so close to a contradiction.

You say that the person being raped is forced into it. You would then force the person to carry the baby to term? Why?

Let's say you meet someone at a party and one thing leads to another. The girl is on the pill, and the guy is using a condom. She gets pregnant. Would they be considered 'irresponsible'?

In my opinion if you aren't planning on reproducing, then don't have sex. If you do anyway, and she gets preggers, then go for an abortion I don't care.

UWotM8?
it should be legal imo, in any case the aborted child is unwanted, meaning they will have a shitty life anyways and a significantly higher chance of becoming a degenerate.

If they are born they go into adoption houses in most cases, which are terrible environments that don't produce anything extraordinary. The best counterexample is a rape child, do you wish to permanently inflict a traumatic experience upon someone for their whole lives because you think that adding another person who is most likely going to become a degenerate is better than aborting the child?

We live and we learn. The idea behind democracy is for it's followers to be free; free to have a choice and make decisions as long as they don't affect a greater majority in a negative way. Abortion should be a decision a parent is allowed to make, just as raising a child in a certain way is. These decisions do not affect a larger public and thus a larger public should not enforce its desires onto it.

Of course it should be legal. If it is legal to kill a cow, or a baby cow for that matter(veal)...its not even a cow fetus, we literally kill born baby cows, chain them up so they cant move so the meat is tender, then slaughter them as infants to feed obese fucking people....

if this is legal....

OF COURSE ABORTION SHOULD BE LEGAL.

FUCK ARROGANT HUMANS.

i hate this world

I think it should be illegal because the way I see it, your still killing a human being.

I thought of it exactly like this... I mean, most people who get abortions anyways, are usually ones who can't take care of the baby. If the baby was to be born, and the mother was poor, etc.. Then The baby would probably end up growing up in the streets, doing drugs, selling drugs, Hungry all the time.. Stuff like that.

Well, in a case of a rape, abortion would really be the best for the child. The girl will very likely abuse the baby after he/she is born and that child will suffer even more.

Let's say you meet someone at a party and one thing leads to another. The girl is on the pill, and the guy is using a condom. She gets pregnant. Would they be considered 'irresponsible'?

Well, they will need to think further into the future before they act. It really sad to see needless number of lives lost due to irresponsible actions done, be in under the influence of alcohol or lust. Anyway, pill is not a 100% fool-proof method.

Why is killing human beings bad? (Serious)

This isn't much different from a mother who was not raped, and is forced to raise the child.

You did not answer the question, responsible or irresponsible? Remember, they used 2 highly efficacious methods simultaneously.

Killing human beings is bad because it's ending someone's life without their consent. Euthanasia is a different topic but if you kill someone you are taking away from them their ambitions, dreams, what they believe is their purpose, you're taking away everything they have.

However, what Dark Pker 13 said is true:

That is a very valid point and I agree with you, however, is it true that that is how society works? People want to do many things that don't negatively affect a larger public but they are restricted by laws. I guess that's kind of off topic.

Quick fact, abortions on the base of consent are 99% of the cases in America.

In my opinion, it should be legal. Of course you could always say 'Well you shouldn't have sex' but at this day in age, that will not happen. If the mother fears for the kid or would not be able to handle it, they should have this choice.

Also, Freakonomics (if anyone watched or read) pointed out that abortion had a great impact on crime rate. Of course as they say at the end, this should not effect your views on abortion, just something to think about. Here is the clip.

That of course is a short clip but they do make a strong point. Do I believe it played as big of a role as portrayed? No but, it still was a large factor.

Careless sexual precautions shouldn't be pardoned by abortions, however if someone were to be raped I would condone abortion in that case.
