Serious Issue

I Realize this is a long story but I would really appreciate help.

It all started last semester during a school dance. I was going to try to blaze for the first time with two friends. While one of my friends was attempting to light it up, our Geography teacher caught him lighting something but not exactly what. Since me and one friend were in his class and he knows us very well he wanted to speak to just us two. Our Geography teacher understands kids very well and he is quite young himself. He assumed we were attempting to smoke cigarettes and he and us two knew its is strictly prohibited to smoke anything on school grounds and we were facing a lengthy suspension. But being the teacher he is, he said he wasn't going to not turn us into administration (When i'm positive all the other teachers would of) on the condition we would write down a piece of paper the name of the third guy involved or we would face the suspensions. Usually you would say "take the hit of the suspensions" but our parents are far more strict then that and getting suspended at all would be writing our own death wishes. While this was happening my friend was being unresponsive and put his head on the desk like nothing was happening. I had no choice but to rat out our other friend or we would of gotten the suspensions. So after the weekend when the issue was resolved you would assume everything be okay but it wasn't. He started to completely ignore and blew me off. I myself wouldn't care and do the same to him for being ungrateful for what I did for us when he decided to be a coward and not respond at all. But he is starting to have a negative influence on some of my friends and starts talking shit about me. This is ticking me off since he's trying to turn them on me when I tried to help us both. If you're wondering about the friend I had to rat on, he is cool with everything and he said I did what I had to do, plus nothing even happened to him at all at the end.

When I try to do something stupid in my life it bites me in the ass right away, It's bad karma I deserved I guess.

This is where the golden question 'What do I do?" comes into play.

I was in a similar situation when I was in 11th grade.

For some reason, I took up someone's offer to smoke some weed in the back of the campus. The person was a known pot head, and a campus official saw us walking back to where we were gonna smoke.

That person got caught with a massive amount of weed [like, distribution quantity to the max], I didn't get caught but that person ratted me in [wtf?] so I ended up getting suspended while they got arrested and expelled.

We had the same circle of friends, since the other person was facing jail [because of the masssssive amount of weed] I didn't hold too much against them for ratting me out even though it's not like I was some druglord that getting me would reduce his stuff.

If people are going to turn on you for stupid shit, then they aren't your friends.

I hung out with people that can easily just cast you aside, but I also hung out with people that have been cool with me and accepting since Kindergarten.

It will just show you who your real friends are. None of it is your fault.

What you did was fine The teacher could have handled it better than just pressuring you into giving up the third member.

I had a similar situation but I'd rather not tell it. But basically I ratted out a friend and he didn't talk to me until a year later.

I had a similar issue, but i didn't rat my friend out. It ended with me getting suspended for 3 months (almost expelled) and me having to repeat 10th grade (ohhh soo fun) and then my friend got arrested for drug possession and all the works and I haven't talked to him since. Wish I would have made your decision. I think that what you did was better in the long run.

You called your friend a coward for not ratting on his mate? You sir are the coward and you will have to deal with your friend thinking the same. Only course of action you have is to apologize and see if he accepts it, otherwise just have to stay with your other friends and hopefully learn to be loyal to them.

Strongly agree with aus here. From reading your story there is no way you or your friend could of been implicated in the "smoking incident" in any way. You called your friend a coward for not ratting on his mate? You sir are the coward and you will have to deal with your friend thinking the same. Lol I think you guys got confused on what I was trying to say (My fault for not learning how to space). The guy who got ratted on doesn't care what happened and understood what I had to do. The guy who I was with when we were being interrogated by the teacher is mad at me for no apparent reason. He was being completely unresponsive during the whole time and made me do all the talking. Which is why I called him a coward and I have seriously no idea why he's not talking to me.

The Third Guy was with us as well, while we got caught. If we didn't rat him in we would of got suspended and my teacher would have gone a witch hunt after him which would of made things a lot worse and he probably would of get suspended as well. Nothing happened to the third guy at all not even a phone call which is why I knew I made the right decision as we would of all be suspended if I didn't do anything. Me and the guy I was being interrogated with got phone calls, may have been the reason why but it was our own faults being caught have no idea why he is taking out his anger on me.

You did the right thing. The 'friend' who decided to do nothing and just put his head down has absolutely no reason to be upset. HE should be the one getting talked shit about for being such a puss and not taking action. Sooner or later he'll come around and realize what an ass he's been.
Something you could do is ask the friend you had to turn in to talk to the 'friend' who's talking shit on you and tell him that what he's doing isn't fair to you, nor is there any reason for him to be doing it, he should be THANKFUL that you saved both of your asses from getting suspended

I think, if your going to get involved in anything like that, you need to 'man up' as such and accept responsibility. The teacher thought is was a cigarette, obviously it could've been worse and he could have caught you smoking pot.

He is mad at you because he has seen first hand that when the chips are down you will turn him in... over a school suspension?

You're a coward and not a loyal friend and he saw that.

What are you talking about? He saved their lives by telling who the last guy was. If he had not told it, a lot of stuff would have happened, such as the administration calling their parents. He did not loose anything by saying it. He, and the others, just got out of trouble, so what is the big problem? OP should try explaining that to the "friend", and if he still talks shit, you should just ignore him, because then he seems to me like a person with a really low IQ to be honest.

Contrary to some of the above replies, I say you did the right thing. You could of got a long suspension, potentially effecting your grades and (unlikely) your future career. Honestly, I value my future more than my friends, your grades stay with you for life; your friends don't.

You didnt mention this in the OP, but even with the third guy being their i still dont understand why it was up to you to hand in your mates, i know your punishment was light after admitting it, but would it really be that much worse if you didnt?

I personally grew up around mates that used to take the fall for me and when the time came i would have to take the fall. Yeah its inconvenient but its all about comradeship, if you want to have semi-freinds i suggest you continue with what your doing, but if you want brothers instead of just mates, i think its time for a change.

I am now 21 and unlike alot of other groups of friends i see that used to be tight, my group still is all solid. We dont see each other as much as we all have work an other things, but we try meet up once a week for a dinner or a massive lunch just to catch up an talk shit an find out how everyone is going. I guess you did the right thing , if the right thing is books and not social. I personally choice social first , but was still good at the books

If it was me I wouldn't have told in the first place. The teachers/councellors usually lie to you saying you'll get in a bunch of trouble if you don't tell them what went down which is a huge lie and never believe it in the future. If they have nothing on you, you won't get in trouble. Anyways, friend 2 is a huge dick and is just talking shit. If I were you I would flip a switch on this kid, he's obviously just doing it for the popularity aspect and thinks he's being cool. As for friend 3 he is a true friend. Stick with him, and next time don't rat him out.
