just guessing - they're primarily trained to use guns/knifes??

i don't think many military would match the likes of Anderson Silva for example, would make for a good fight though :p

Fighting is VERY different then the UFC.

In a REAL fight you would elbow to the back of the head, eye gouge, ect.

They are specifically trained for their own things. The UFC has rules.

    UFC Fighting Question

That is an interesting question, and I have had similar thoughts, but when I finally became involved in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts, the fighting style that is used in the UFC) I learned the reasons. One of the main reasons is most likely that by the time they are out of the marines they are are past there prime. Also, as previously mentioned they have different types of training. Military training styles are intense and effective but would most likely not work against a UFC fighter. Military styles attacks are typically quick, submissive and/or lethal and are effective against untrained people. UFC fighters for example, will most likely effectively counter any military style attack. UFC fighters train for years where marines have intense training, but only for a few weeks so comparatively, being a marine would not give that much of an advantage when entering the world of MMA. Its kind of like saying why don't guys who took karate when they were young enter the UFC?

A question that I tend to be more confused by is why how people in the crazy fighting countries don't dominate the UFC . There are countries where fighting is literally a way of life and is focused on more than school is. I forgot where it is but I remember watching this show on how these kids train in muay thai something like 10 hours a day from age 5 onward. There have been a few people who came from such backgrounds enter the UFC and none have been all too successful.

Sorry for the lengthy answer, I'm not a genius but this is an area in which I do have a lot of knowledge and experience so let me know if you have any other questions.

..... Unless you are jumped or are a pussy don't do cheap shit like eye gouge in stupid 1v1 fights. Your probably the same type of guy that thinks kicking in the balls is fine too. People like you are why there are never any fights like in the good old days when you get angry with someone, throw a couple punches at each other till someone is down, then become friends.

    UFC Fighting Question

While being in the Military provides very good fight training, it is not big enough to become a great MMA fighter. There are fighters from the military fighting in MMA. Its MMA fighting too, not ufc fighting. You have Tim Kennedy, Brian Stann, Darrill Schoonover and Luigi Foirivonti as fighters from the military off of the top of my head.

    UFC Fighting Question

Brian Stann was part of the military.
And i cant believe some of the most retarded responses i've seen up there, im not even going to quote them.

Military teachs BASIC Marital arts and jiu jutsu, just enough for hand-on-hand combat. You put up a guy straight from the military into the UFC cage and they'll be rip'd apart in shreds.
They still need at least 5-6 months of real hardcore training before being able to get in.
The only branch that i can think of that actually may do well with the minimal training as long as they have good TDD are the US Navy Seals.

And yeah the military doesn't teach much takedown defense(just incase your wondering what TDD is), they teach the wrestling basics, which inst near enough the amount you need to know.

    UFC Fighting Question

And they have to get some real hard-core training in.

The training that the US Army gives inst enough. And to most of us regular kids, the muscular dude at the GYM would look like an Pro MMA fighter, while the truth is, put him in the REAL UFC cage and they are beached-whales.

I saw a US army grappling video some time ago for the fun of it on youtube, and trust me they make ALOT of mistakes, and choose to gas themselves doing the wrong thing. They dont have the pure Jiu jut su training they need with actual top BJJ black belts. Not just instructors with a random 3rd degree BJJ blackbelt under a no-name school.

The Magic of MMA is that you CANNOT perfect it, you can be well-rounded, but you just CANT be perfect.
A 9th Degree TKD blackbelt could be one lethal striker. But if you take him down, what is he going to be? A useless fish flopping in water without jiu Jutsu training.

And whats a jiu Jutsu guy going to be if he cant strike? Hes also useless. In MMA you have to do hard-core training in ALL areas not just one.

Yeah you can have a dude that trains in wrestling at 5 years old to now like Koscheck, but hes still being taken down by GSP. Why? Because you just cant perfect yourself in MMA, its just too much going on in your head when you get into the Cage/Ring.
"Takedown, elbows, headkicks, left hook, right left kick, leg kick, Omaplata, Armbar, Overhand right, Weaving left...................................." Holy crap you know how much stuff there is to learn?.

    UFC Fighting Question

I agree, military branches are trained to kill.. They break you down to where that's all you know. Take the Marines for Example. They push you and break you untill you either give up or deal with it.

Would you want to fight someone who has been trained by the Government to kill? I know I wouldn't.

Youzz talking about me brahhh? I aint scurred to cut you.
They teach basic training and it is a solid base to start it out, but you arent just going to get into the cage and win fights because of that backround.

Great responses everyone. I guess I underestimated the time and effort professional UFC fighters actually give.

    UFC Fighting Question

They are killing machines yes, but every MMA fighter has the potential to kill sd well.
So honestly whether they are for killing or not, its not the answer to his question.
The answer is the amount of dedication and effort you put into your training. The fighters train for EVERY fight for months. the marines/US army/Spec ops train for a set amount of time, and after that its all action. They wouldn't know what to do to the guy they are facing.

Look at Ron Waterman, dudes a a decent fighter with training. He goes to takedown one of the best submission wrestlers in Roger Gracie and get submitted in less than 10 seconds. He just didnt realize the threat of the skills of the person hes facing. Imagine a military guy coming straight from his service and into the cage. He wouldn't know what's the specialty of the person across the ring from him.

In Every fight a MMA fighter trains a certain and different way depending on who his next match-up is.

I hope this answers your question more solidly than others.

    UFC Fighting Question

easy question to answer: military man are formed to fight on a battlefield where they must be prepared for anything (2vs1, guns, knife) so he will be better prepared to fight against many people.

a ufc fighter is trained to fight against one opponent in a cage.

its asking whats better a machine gun or a sniper. it depends how and where you use it. and also who uses it.
