Scool uniforms.

Policy:
Students in public, K-12 schools must wear school uniforms.

Background:
- Uniforms are uniquely designed for each school. (Think Japan)
- Students must purchase their uniform from the school.
- Students must wear their uniforms on school campus at all times. (Strict)

I’ll generate a few arguments so you can get an idea of how this will work. Don't let the confusing numbers prevent you from displaying your opinions.

CON 1
School uniforms are expensive because they are designed specifically for that school.

PRO 1 to CON 1
School uniforms would save parents moneyand time because they don’t have to do the traditional ‘back to school’ clothes mass shopping for their children.

PRO 2
In the morning, students would not have to make up their minds on what they should wear for the day.

PRO 3
Students would not be embarrassed or harassed because of their clothes if their parents were not able to buy them the newest fad.

PRO 4
Gangs use clothing to identify themselves and generate an uneasy atmosphere.

CON 2 to PRO 4
Why not simply remove the gang members from the school and place them in an alternative learning environment, like a boot camp?

PRO 5 to CON 2
School administrators have no power to place any student in a different learning environment if they have not caused any problems. Even then, if the problems are minor, they are given detention and still allowed in the school.

PRO 6
Students’ social standing would be based more on individual character and less on economic status.

PRO 7
Some students use baggy clothing to hide weapons or drugs.

CON 3
School uniforms have no use outside of school.

PRO 8
School uniforms make it easy to identify people who do not attend the school.

I do not think school need uniforms. It makes life at school as far as creativity boring.

The clothes you wear can tell alot about yourself, but people should not mainly be judged by what they wear at school

 

I do not support school uniforms because they are unneeded, and expensive. Schools encourage creativity and "being yourself," yet they want you to wear a uniform that is unoriginal, and makes people less unique. Somewhat contradictory in my opinion.

 

I would go crazy! with the amount of different things i wear... argh!

 

I used to go to school in a predominantly ghetto (lots of black people) area. We didn't have uniforms but we did have a very strict Polo + Pants dress code policy. If it wasn't for this I would have had to look at black butt cracks everyday because normally their pants are below their ass. Also, the policy helped keep their from dressing in their gang colors as often. And don't get me started on the doo rags.

 

In the public school system, unless a student has a particularly violent history or poor grades you're not allowed to deny them access to their districts school.

I support them, it gives order, and makes getting up in morning a lot easier. Plus girls in catholic school girl skirts are quite hot.

 

well i do an i don't, i do because if someone isn't as rich as someone else they still have the same clothes so there for no one can pay out on you for that, i don't because there really boring colors and there really hot in summer, i have to wear school uniforms but don't really care

I bet most of the guys think that every single day, & the girls who are not like that are just like " omg, what a sicko! " all school uniforms do is put "sexual" thoughts out in the world, thinking it's fine to dress like that, (be skanky to men since they're turnned on by the skirts.) it does set "help" to females from saying " omg like what am I should wear today!! "

Indeed I do support them.

Nearly every English School has its own School Uniform.

This way, it individualizes every school.

It also removes any chance of clothes cliques, and adds a type of discipline through smart clothing, and by maintaining smart clothing.

If you wear smart clothing for the first thirteen years of your life, you're likely to continue doing so throughout life.

I think that may be true but there children and if your wearing school uniform everyone is confined and can not be individual so although the CON's are valid i think the PRO's are more so.

 

I personally have to wear a school uniform and hate it! It's uncomfy, Un-cool and pointless. Aren't adults always saying that it's whats on the inside that matters most and not the outside appearance??

I do not disagree with you one bit, but if you don't know, if you see a guy with an erection, and the situation isn't relevant, its most likely he is undergoing puberty. I have read that male teens will get an erection for no reason. If you have known this, don't take it as me insulting your intelligence.

I'm not sure if my opinion fits in with this because one, my school doesn't address uniforms, and two, I have a job in the summer to buy clothes I want. So I don't support it.

I am against school uniforms mainly because it prevents you from wearing what you want to school...

As for gangs... Oh please, whether you eliminate the gang members option to wear his gangs cloths to school, he will still be in the gang, uniforms do nothing to prevent students from being apart of/joing a gang. One of my classmates got a detention for wearing different color shoelaces due to "gang like" reference. Why don't we restrict what kind of school laces you can fucking wear?

As for clothing cliques... You serious? Whos ever heard of a clique that all they do is judge what people are wearing, I have never seen nor heard of one.

As for hiding guns/drugs in baggy clothing... What is going to prevent the student from hiding weapons or durgs or drinks in their locker/backpack?
