Is this a good way to prevent unauthorized chargeback?

I was reading some thread on Sythe and someone mentioned a good way to prevent unauthorized chargebacks (the most common one scammers use).

His suggestion: After the buyer sends payment via paypal as a gift, he also sends an actual E-MAIL, using the one registered to paypal, to the sellers E-MAIL address saying something like, "Happy holidays, here's $X"

This way, the "unauthorized access" claim wouldn't work(?) Anyone know anything about this?

I am not for certain this works, but this is what I personally do. But, when they send it as a gift/service, make sure it says, "I am purchasing virtual goods, I will not charge back. I sent an email to his email confirming this." Then with the email, it says, "I am confirming I am buying virtual goods and will not chargeback." Please make sure they send the email with the email they use for their paypal. But, I deal with craigslist a lot, and these are the steps I have people do, and never had a chargeback, maybe because of the extra steps I make them take?

None of those methods will prevent these.

Maybe there isn't an option? The "virtual goods" disclaimer doesn't work and there's no reason why the email one would do so either.

Nothing will 100% prevent unauthorized chargebacks no matter what. However I remember FlyingToast was selling a guide to block them 99% of the time and it sold quite well.

Wouldn't it be smarter if he sent the message before you received the payment.

Also Paypal doesnt cover virtual trades so if you can call paypal instantly after you see that he has chargebacked you can explain over phone that before the payment he sent you a email about the purchase, the note claims it to be a virtual good transaction and paypals rules claim that it doesnt cover virtual transactions therefore you should not loose funds?

Hope that made sense.. ill dig up a thread where i found the above infoo .

Not true. I've actually beaten an unauthorized chargeback on paypal because I had done this. However, you will still lose if the person contacts their credit card company to reverse the payment.

When you receive the email, you can get the person's IP address and then see if it's the same geographic location their paypal says they're from.

Then, you know they're not on a VPN or proxy, and you can submit that as proof to paypal if they pull the ol' 'unauthorized transaction'.

Sending things as a gift is actually the most stupid thing you can do, as it is very easy to chargeback in relation to other payment types.

What I do is let the people way as let them send the payment as 'goods' and require them to add a note which basically means that he had already got his stuff and that no shipping information got received.

I also am quite picky on who I allow to trade with me, to be honest that's the #1 preventer of chargebacks...

I got multiple other measurements to avoid chargebacks but I prefer to keep this secret as I don't want everybody to know them :p

I once had someone tell me that a way to stop chargebacks is to have them make a claim, and then cancel it. I haven't tested it my self, though.
