The first public revelation of RiD's Top Secret project... RiD Genesis.

Hi everybody,

I would like to share with you information about my latest and most ambitious project to date... RiD Genesis.
RiD Genesis has been a long-term goal of mine for a while, the two main features of this project are:

- Allow users to design and create their own bots in an easy and intuitive way, without any coding.
- Take a users biometric data, and use that to re-create their playing style.

How will this be done?

Up till release this is still subject to change, however the current plan is to use a 'finite state machine' model, where a bot consists of a set of 'states' and a set of 'actions'. At run-time the bot watches what's happening in-game, recognizes particular 'states' and takes the appropriate 'action' for the scenario it's faced with. This is a more human-like architecture than we were using previously.
That may sound complicated... but in practice, all you'll need to do to create a bot is record yourself play.
How long will you need to record for? The more the better... the more data the bot has the more accurately it can re-produce your playing style. About 45 minutes should provide a good level of detail, but exactly how much is up to you.
A finite state machine for your task will be created automatically, and you will only have to edit that if/when you encounter a scenario that causes your bot to quit (which you will then be able to configure an appropriate action for, to avoid repeats of this problem again in the future), and you'll also be able to manually configure states and actions too.

Will I be able to download and share bots?

Yes, but when using a downloaded bot you will still need to record yourself play, in order to pick up biometric data.
For convenience, we may provide some pre-made bots similar to the old bots (which will become obsolete with this update), but you will be able to create bots for all the things we used to do, and more, with the Genesis platform.

How long will this take?

You can check the latest diary entry (at the bottom of this post) for the most up-to-date information regarding release date.

I heard I will be able to use this for other things, not just RuneScape?

You heard right, RiD Genesis is graphics based and there is nothing tying you down to RuneScape. Initial prototypes may be geared toward the RuneScape environment, but you will be able to configure your own settings to enable the bot to function in other environments, games, and repetitive tasks in general.

How much will it cost, and will there be a free version?

This is also still subject to change, but my plan is to make the basic stuff free, and charge for the human input service... So you could make bots for desktop games etc, where there's no need for humanlike input and have the mouse jump around the place... but to utilize your biometric data and tap into the 'human input' capabilities of this bot, you'll need to pay a monthly subscription (there will be three levels, depending on how heavily you plan to use the service).

I would just finally like to thank everyone for their patience during this time, while I put this all together. I understand the anticipation and need for these bots is high, and I will work my utmost to get RiD Genesis ready to go, as soon as possible.

Interested to see how it actually plays out. This will be hard to do well, especially in less than a year.

omg, it's pretty amazing to see how far that technic is and what can be done, this is really really interessting, thanks for sharing this information with us trent

Yeah, let's drop serious cash on a service that isn't released and has been continuously delayed with no idea when it was going to be released.

A lot of confidence in an item that was said to be released around Christmas time, only to be said "weeks" away 4ish days before the anticipated release.

Once RiD becomes more vocal, and perhaps a bit more insightful about what's happening, I might care.

I can understand how someone who has little to no history with RiD and his products would feel that way. I have been familiar with the only developer and his products for close to 4 years now, so my faith in him has grown because of that. Programming is a tricky task, especially when you're dealing with replicating human input. What you expect to take a couple hours can turn into half a day or more of work. I'm in university for Technology Management, and I can tell you from experience that it's extremely difficult to make a perfectly accurate estimate of project completion. With what I've come to know from RiD's accomplishments and history, I have complete confidence in his project, despite the fact that it's still to be released. I spent $165 for unlimited because of this confidence, and I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Like I said, from your point of view, I can understand where you're coming from. From my point of view and experience, I'm making the right decision. *shrug*

by what they said, it seems they're working on it for some time already.

RiD is the only developer, and while he's been doing bits of work here and there, there wasn't any heavy development until around September.

Nice share Trent, this project is going to be revolutionary within the entire macroing scene.

I'm interested to see how much this will cost, as well as how well this works. If it's reasonable I'm definitely going to be purchasing this. :)

From what I've heard, it's a better value than the current system.

A new ETA has been placed on the project:

Release Date: TBA (approx estimate 4-8 weeks)

One question remains...
will it walk?

Yes. RiD is working especially hard at improving aspects of the AI related to walking and object movement tracking. For the most part, you will be able to bot anything you can do legitimately.
