Vouch for ...

Vouches without a trade = fake vouch?

Both guys didn't buy or sell anything.

 

I think people should be allowed to give such vouches, but they shouldn't be counted in one's vouch count. Some people have obscene numbers of those. They can be shown in your vouch thread...but they can't be numbered in ones total count, perhaps put them in a different category in ones thread.

Yeah. All the "highly trusted" users have idiotic vouches. They use the "buddy system", and just vouch for nothing.

I agree with this suggestion.

 

I support this suggestion, I can understand saying hey this guy is legit - but to count it as a vouch is ridiculous. You might as well self-vouch.

 

Basically lots of people get 5+ free vouches for every thread they make....

I thought vouch's need to have a trade to go through, otherwise people could gain vouch's without doing anything but post a sales thread and never actually sell it, i.e letting a thread die away after getting your vouches

 

That's the point of what I said...I'm saying that should not be allowed. They can be given, but not counted for in vouch numbers.

 

To be honest, who cares. Vouches dont mean as much as everyone seems to think, if I give a vouch like that, it's because I know the person well enough to know they deserve it. Its like they say, vouches aren't currency, who their from matter.

You only vouch a person(non-trade) IF you trust them. I discussed this over IRC. If someone trusts you enough to vouch you it's still showing you are trustworthy thus you can use it.

 

So people can get an infinite amount of vouches?

Add that to your vouch thread and see if something isn't said; vouches are used by most people to measure trust or else you wouldn't put [300+ Vouches] in the title of your thread because vouches don't mean anything after all.

 

When I make posts like that and people like posts like that on my behalf I never use it for my vouch thread or vouch count.

 

These shouldn't be even called vouches. They should be called recommendations. IMO vouches should only be given for done services.

This is JUST fake-vouching. No matter how much I trust a user, if I vouch for an undone service, it's called fake-vouching and I'll get banned. I don't see why it should be allowed to more respected users.

 

I've received vouches like those and not once have I used them to count toward my vouch total. Nor do I ever request people leave me these vouches.

The other problem is that I can vouch anyone and be like "Vouch for scammer123, I'd trust him with anything" and no doubt people would think that vouch means something. If he scams, I'm not liable, even though people are mostly basing his trust from my one vouch.

Tl;dr, Don't prevent people from doing it, but don't let it count toward vouch totals

 

Vouch is a sign of trust, if you have trust with one user, why does it have to be trade-related? I trust Govind and Giverny with my full name, Nobody else on sythe is trusted with such, can I not vouch for their trustworthiness?

Nobody's saying you can't, but they shouldn't use it towards their vouch count. Just about everybody uses vouch count to determine somebody's trust.

It's false trust. When people think about vouches, they think that the user their on about has done that many successful trades. If all of my 900+ vouches were from people saying, "vouch, he's trusted", you wouldn't think that it'd be bad?
