How do you guys see Canada?

Canada is a fantastic place to live I am proud to call it my country.

Have you ever seen that episode of the Rick Mercer report where he goes down to the States and he interviews random people on the streets and asks them questions about Canada, and gets them to try to sing the anthems and stuff? LMAO, if you haven't seen it you should check it out, its truly hilarious (although it does play on the "dumb American" stereotype a little heavily.)

I can get pretty proud and defensive if somebody is dissing Canada, because I love it here and I am proud to be a Canadian But luckily I have only ever had the pleasure of meeting really polite, smart, and enjoyable Americans. However, Nik Richie from TheDirty calls Canada "America's hat", and so I like to call America "Canada's underwear"

I do have to add though that I find it odd how many Americans comment saying that us Canadians talk funny. Because I have a few kids from the US I have been Skyping with recently and they all have that "southern hillbilly" way of talking. It's quite funny I guess being around one culture so much, you get used to how those people speak, so hearing another culture that speaks the exact same language but from a different area, you tend to pick up on the different speech patterns and the pernunciations of certains words and such. I remember going on a trip to Cancun in my grad year and we met some really cool kids from the US who we hung out with all week, and we kept laughing because of the way they pronounced certains words. I remember that they were all "hackey players" and they all loved to play "hackey". It was quite an enjoyable trip though getting to mingle with the American's and make lighthearted fun at each other's accents

Well that makes sense, and yea there is a good portion of people here with European and Asian backgrounds.

 

I think of beautiful country with lots of snow. I have a few internet friends there that I have come to know quite well and one day I would really like to live there just for a bit as a nice change from Australia.

 

I have a pretty good friend online from Canada. I definitely want to visit there sometime.

 

Don't diss our bacon, it's the shit! I honestly never hear anyone say eh/aye, maybe it's more common farther north, same with the cabins and moose , I've only seen a few mooses in my life.

OT: when i think of canada i think of:
cold weather
eskimoo's
hockey
south-park blame canada
envious because, your country knows how to stay the fuck outta other countries. We on the other hand have to be every1's Big brother n save the say. causing us more shit then its worth.
Vietnam because so many fled to canada to avoid the war.

not to be a dick but i think u over-estimate how much canada actually helped in world war 2. The amount of soliders that entered the war from Canada were drasticly less then America/britian/Australia/China/Russia i could continue with all the allies but ill leave it at that. You have a great country and deserve to be proud of it. Also id like to comment on ur awesome recycling abilities u guys blow away usa in culture and ingenuity.

I've been there once a few years ago and most of the people seemed nice. I've always thought that healthcare worked differently there than it does here in America, mainly because people in my family always talk about how Canada is more Socialist than America. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

 

Being Canadian I must laugh at the "Moron" that goes by Nimla, But as it goes about my views about Canada... I love it, whenever I go across the boarder in Niagara Falls all it is is constant assholes in the States. It's unbelievable... Even when I went to a Buffalo Bills game....we were looking for parking around Ralph Wilson Stadium and gave the guy a 20$ for a 5$ parking spot...Then we asked him if he knew where the closest corner store was to get some beer...he then gave us our 20$ back and 2 more 20 dollar bills to get h im 5$ bills for change, when we arrived back we saw his wife freaking out....we pull in and give him the 5$ bills back and he goes "haha my wife was freaking out on my that i just gave 40$ to bunch of random people, all I said was they're Canadians, they're not going to steal it...although I wouldnt trust an American with anything more then a 1$ bill"

Yes, We know your all hating that we have free health care. (and before you say some bullshit about wait time, I had my Appendix taken out about 2 years ago..i arrived and within the hour i had it taken out)

Apparently Canadians have different cultures than the US. Never thought there was much difference. And I also don't believe their accent is different from ours.

 

I don't see Canadians as too much different from Americans. In fact, they're probably two of the most similar cultures in my opinion.

There are always people, from both nations, who are argumentative and impolite to each other, but we shouldn't be stereotypical.

 

I see us as awesome...I lived in Toronto most of my life and it is over 51% immigrants...I now live in Saskatchewan and there is a big difference here...TBH I find people in smaller towns more rude then bigger cities...They really just don't know how to mind their own business and report minor things (like your grass being half an inch too long) like its their job.

Also, to get rid of some of the stereotypes in this thread. Hockey is NOT a big part of Canada any more...more kids are on swim teams then hockey teams. We don't live in igloos, it's only snows here in the winter (for most of the country), We don't really hunt too much (the majority of people don't hunt at all) and last but not least, our health care system SUCKS!!!!! yes its probably 1,000,000% better then america, but compared to other countries it's shit and really lagging.

 

All I know is that it's a cool country, just like any other country. Lots of space, nice cities, and bagged milk. :3
