Why does sythe allow and support luring?

I am really curious about this, It would seem to me sythe would be firmly against luring, since it is scamming after all. But what makes it so different from other scams? Why is it justifiable?

It's a controversial subject. It's not technically scamming, but I agree that it shouldn't be allowed. You're advertising something that you aren't going to deliver, and you're using trickery and deceit.

It's a cheating vs market question. Sythe is mainly a market site now, but used to be a cheating site and isn't shunning cheating. Jagex also decided that luring wasn't against the rules either.

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

It shouldn't be allowed. I've been lured for a Santa before and I failed to see the difference between that and when I was scammed 120m by someone on sythe. It is no different than any other firn of scamming. If people are banned for doing the mith 2h/rune2h scam YEARS ago, then why aren't lurers banned? I think all lurers should be pardoned, but from now on it shouldn't be allowed.

Simply because jagex allows it. And anything jagex says makes it official. Entering the wilderness is your responsibility and even more now with all the warnings.

It shouldn't be allowed. It's the EXACT same thing as scamming.......

It isn't "cheating". Cheating is botting. Scamming is when one party is tricked by another into the loss of their items. Luring = scamming.

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

I think Jagex allows luring because its a part of the game, its a skill to be able to find good lure methods. and like onefatmofo said its your own fault if you get tricked to going in a Dangerous area

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

There's different kinds of luring nowadays, for example the way that I lured was with a team in multi, bringing overconfident pkers from single to multi. Another popular lure that I performed was when Protect Item chose the higher alch price item, luring rune + ags/claws to level 8-10 wilderness to fight my friend who was risking a Blessed Spirit Shield. Before my friend died he would toss a teleblock, and after they picked up the BSS I would brid them until they died, resulting in AGS/Claws PK's.

    Is it luring? yes.
Would either method be considered scamming? I would think not

The Jojo3000 lure that kids do these days is successful because it picks at a person's greed for money. Simply put, if you don't want to get lured, then don't step into the wilderness. More complicated lures like Red Portal luring/Deadly CLW are also based off a person's greed (As it's usually a reverse lure, lurers luring an aspiring lurer that they recruited)

Sythe members who lure other Sythe members and used these forums as an intermediary get banned. Wolfdog got lured not too long ago by another Sythe member, and that Sythe user was subsequently banned.

I change my mind I agree with this post. Sythe should not be a middleman for luring techniques.

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

I did some hunting in the denied section to find you this thread made by ChristmasCracker regarding luring. http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1158495

To find that I had to use advanced search on sythe, but before that I tried using google and I found this thread. http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1183162

However, while on google I also found this thread. http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=193269

Which led me to go through the rs news posts to find this article. http://services.runescape.com/m=news/rule-2-update

That news update clearly states luring is scamming therefor it should not be allowed on sythe. The excuse we use to allow it was that Jagex allowed it, however it is clear now they do not.

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

Scamming and luring are different; most lures involve the player knowingly entering a dangerous area (like the wilderness), where they should be prepared to lose whatever they've brought with them. If they're tricked into picking up a bait item, it's their fault for being so careless.

There's also a fair difference in the amount of effort, ingenuity, and skill it takes to lure versus to scam, which to me makes luring seem like a more acceptable practice.

Author and others who are against luring, you got lured for your bank?

I do not section this as scamming. Then botting is scamming too, because you steal from the legit players with your botting army.

If you were so stupid to get lured, it is your own fault. Never have been lured even for a 50k wealth.

Talking about it should be allowed, but I do not like the sticky about luring.
It looks as that ''Join and lure'', we should not encourage it.

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

No, during botting, nothing is stolen from legit players. There is simply competition between the legit players and botters with spots and sales, but the legit players' property isn't stolen from them. The bots compete against the legit players, much like legit players compete against other players. While botting is not a fair means of competition according to Jagex, it is not categorized as scamming, because it is not scamming.

Perhaps we should allow scamming in sythe, after all, if you are so stupid to get scammed, it is your own fault. I've never been scammed for even 50k of gold.

i do not agree with you because just like you said, the player is tricked into a trust process. Imagine if someone here on sythe joins our community and gain a good amount of vouches, and then scam someone for 200-500m. In a way that player tricked his seller into trusting him for 200-500m AND the seller is not stupid for believing someone with 20+ vouches that seems legit, i believe IT'S THE SAME THING both are techniques with the intention of tricking the player into loosing his items/GP. I strongly believe luring SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED

    You understood it literally.

Scamming here in Sythe is a lot different than in game.

I do not know why someone started this discussion, probably wanted to gain support, postcount or she/he have been lured so hard that he can not get over it.

Let do not scam Jagex, lets not allow real world trading. We must be legit.

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

If you're wondering why I made this thread is was to simply ask why we allowed and supported luring. I do not value post count, it is meaningless. I have been lured before, but only for a fraction of my bank value, it didn't really bother me, I even stayed to talk to the lurers afterwords it was actually fun.

See what I don't undertand is that the logic behind sythe allowing luring is that it's not scamming because they "deserved" it. But my question is, why is this any different then any other scam?

How is this any different then someone getting scammed on sythe for anything else? I mean if you're stupid enough to fall for a scam, I don't think you deserved it. Why did you deserve to be lured? What sets it apart?

Is it because you were greedy? I mean most of the time people get lured because they want money, but that doesn't mean they didn't get scammed.

For example if say back in the day I was offered a whip for cheap, and when we traded they switched the whip out for nothing, and in my greed I read absolutely nothing as abyssal whip. I "deserved" to get scammed, but it's still a scam.

So what makes it different from luring?

Edit: I understand sythe supports cheating, but it does not support scamming. So why is luring cheating and not scamming?

Why does sythe allow and support luring?

It was discussed before, it's the users fault because they SHOULD know the risks they're taking/getting into by finding a luring partner/luring.
