Account verification

I was wondering if something along the lines' of account verification can be made.

Ex: You register, and then you'd have to get an email to active your account(like most forums), BUT you'd have to check the IP of the user before that account can be access'd to Post/PM. This would eliminate A LOT of scammers/vaders. Making trading a lot more safe.

 

I'd probably say that would slow the process down of joining, though, right?

This would take up alot of the mods time when they should be dealing with things like scammer reports, donations, avatar requests, spam reports, ect.

It just common sence to do background checks on someone when you want to trade with them, look at vouches, posts, ect.

However, if this does get approved and they are looking for any new mods...

 

Yeah, but if their a legitimate person, they wouldn't mind waiting. What is an extra 24 hours going to do? In that time a vader could easily scam once again. This is just a suggestion to eliminate vaders from returning to the community.

 

Now, we don't do donations......avatar requests, globals handle and that's been backed up and we have like 7 globals, which I don't understand. There are enough mods to do spam reports. I remember when there was 45 pages that Corey and I did. Maybe a certain way to weed out these scammers would be nice.

True, but eliminate most people from coming back after they we're previously banned. I understand it may be complicated seeing how mods are assigned to a section, but I suggested this to eliminate the vaders from coming back to scam again. Thus making the people who are legitimate, know they are in the right spot and will most likely not be scammed.

I kinda support. It would be more interesting to see an automated system which checks the IP of registration, IF it matches a banned user's IP, it would delay the registration and enter a manual review.

 

I say no support, ip's are easy to change anyway. So it wouldn't be much use.

I support this. Even if people do change their IPs, some of them won't, which is enough reason to keep the current system in place. Also, to those saying Mods have a lot of work, this will cut down on Mod work as the scam reports will no longer exist.

I think i would support this , as the amount of dumb scammer's it will keep out is a good idea, just keep's the forum cleaner and more legit, obviously there's going to be the odd scammer here and there, but you'll probably know about them to do run your own checks on them, like paypal checking, msn checking... iv only named the obvious one's but there is alot.

 

I support this as it would reduce scammers.

However, my decision could be swayed by the amount of users that join each day as it could be too much too handle.
