Teach me to computers.

So, in knowledge of computers I know pretty much nothing.

I've recently started to bot my main account + a dung pure im working on but my computer cant seem to handle it, here are some things you may need to know.


My house runs 3 computers 1 laptop and two playstations off of one internet connection and usally all are online movie sharing sites or youtube at once (play stations are on black ops 90% of the time)

Im downstairs in my house and use a internet wireless stick (dont know if that makes a difference)

I was reccemonded to get more RAM to help my computer run faster and got that done recently; also deleted my browsing history and deleted programs i dont use anymore.

any help or suggestions as to getting my comp to run faster would be appreciated.

 

What's are the specs of your computers?

 

your going to have to elaborate or tell me how to access these.

 

Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Sytem

Now when a window pops up the first thing you should look at is where it says "computer".

For me in that area it says I have a pentium(R) 3.40ghz processor bla bla bla and 4 gb of RAM. I suggest taking a screen shot of it so we can see exactly what you have.

Wow, you're going to need to upgrade soon I'd say. Each bot uses between 500MB - 1GB of RAM, and you only have 1GB total. Also your processor sucks complete ass. Windows XP has been outdated since like 2005.

Basically there is not much you can do to salvage the performance of that computer.

 

Don't worry your not screwed. It looks like you have a decent processor, that will max out at 4 gb of RAM. What your going to need to do is open up your computer and see what kind of RAM "sticks" you have in there. You most likely have 2-4 slots in your computer, you want to buy the right size RAM "sticks" to equal up to 4 gb of RAM.

What I suggest you do is look up on youtube how to put RAM in your computer, its really very simple and a video will help. It wont be to expensive but your going to have to put some money into it. This should help exponential increase the number of bots you can run. Note that it also helps to not have that many systems using the internet at once.

 

what do you reccomend? im on a really low budget btw.

 

I did this recently (well i didn't personally do it) I took my computer to a tech guy in my town and got 2GB of ram inserted. took him less than 15 minutes. would this show up on the computer or?

 

Uhm yea something must be wrong, there it says you only have 1 gb of RAM. It should say you have 2 or 3 GB. Take it back to him and tell him that your computer is only recognizing 1 GB of RAM.

You know you could always buy a new computer, i hope you don't have to as they are so expensive, but really its the easiest option.

 

You'd end up buying almost a whole pc just to upgrade to newer and faster parts.

Here's the processors you can choose from if you decide to upgrade that without changing your motherboard, but it isn't worth it really. You can pick from any of the ones with the 478 socket. Just make sure it's better than the one you have now. Google them to find prices as some can be over $500.
Also, the Gallatin's are HIGHLY overclockable so they can be fun to play around with.

ram you can upgrade too the maximum you can support. That is if you decide against getting a new motherboard and upgrading to ddr3 ram.

You probably have a small HD, so upgrading that could be a good thing. Try to get at least a 7200rpm drive, SATA 3, size is up to you. SSD's are better, but expensive. only worth upgrading the HD if you get a new motherboard.

If your only running 1 bot an easier fix would be to simply go to preferences on the rsbuddy client and select use less ram. also go to the java process task manager and switch the priority to high. This should help.

 

Give me a budget and I'll try to tell you whether you're better off just building from scratch or trying to upgrade your current PC. (though I can already tell you with a degree of certainty that building from scratch will probably be better)
