Capital punishment.

For those of you infamilar with the term; capital punishment is the death penalty.


Do you agree with capital punishment?

 

In some cases maybe. But, that is only in cases where multiple people were murdered or some other horrible crime not just single homocide. Also, there would have to be a 100% certainty that the person is guilty which is not really possible. Which is why I say in most cases I am against it unless it is a terrible criminal that they have VERY good proof against.

 

I agree with it, but only in special cases. If it was a specific punishment for a certain penalty, there could be underlying differences between the cases that should make the case different, and therefore should not be punished equally.

 

Yes, I think it should be implicated more often. Use it as population control instead of whatever else is going on.

 

Honestly I have absolutely no problem with capital punishment except for the cases when people are unjustly punished. That being said I would still like the option for death by Firing team

 

I've become somewhat ambivalent over the issue:

I still for the most part reject its use. I'll only accept it on cases where the person will still be a threat to society when incarcerated.

 

I do not, no one gave us the right to kill.

 

Any rational human must have the natural rights. When a previously rational human being initiates force in the form killing someone then they are acting irrationally. It is not rational to out of no reason initiate force resulting in the death of your rational human counterpart. It declares that you do not want to live as a rational human being and thus you ultimately live irrationally. Losing your status of rationality revokes any previous rights that logically may have been attributed to you.

For this case, with respect to proportionality, capital punishment seems fitting for purging someone who a) no longer receives rights natural rights due to lacking the specific quality rights are given to on the basis on (rationality) b) the punishment is proportional.


No one gave us the right to kill is a bit perplexing. No one gave us the right to infringe upon the rights of others, BUT, self-defense itself is an enforceable right.

 

I don't agree with the death penalty. We constantly see people in the US being convicted for crimes they didn't do (or vice versa) because of our flawed justice system. If we have even given the death penalty to ONE person who didn't deserve, we're all murderers and deserve the same. The means don't justify the ends ?

 

Only on convictions of serial murder, with solid evidence backing every claim. Single murder should only be a life sentence, no matter the circumstances (excluding manslaughter, of course).

 

Rights are created by mankind.
During racist and segregationist periods, Killing a black man was perfectly legal, because they didn't count as "men". In fact, all white men had the "right" to kill black men.

 

It all depends on what the crime was, people like pedophiles, rapists and murderers shouldn't even be given a capital punishment, they should just be shot where they're stood.

But less serious things, I would say just jail them, or fine them a shitload of money.

Certain rights are, natural rights however arguably self-evident.

For example, in x years, I may have the right to kill people of a certain ethnicity. This however is not a natural right.

Though Capital punishment is generally reserved for murderers, this argument fails to acknowledge that rape too is grounds for execution.
