New section in Security Program Center

Suggestion:

As there are always people impersonating someone or someone selling an account that's been sold multiple times and recovered, it is sometimes hard to find exactly what you are looking for. If this section got a new category that had threads pinned to top for easy searches and moderated posting to allow user to submit new accounts to be submitted could potentially save some users from losing money. Along with the the account feature it would be a place to easily see any imposters discords name and ID posted on one central thread easily accessible and also a place for user to submit new imposters.

Back in the day mods/admins updated this list with accounts from RaS to help the community know what accounts to watch out for. Based off the thread it was last updated in 2023. Honestly I would be shocked if newer users knew this thread even existed as to find it naturally takes a bit of digging. There is also a list of accounts that get rented out to not rent which I will edit and add once this is posted. This list could save users from getting scammed when the seller evades their ban/DNT and makes a new account and someone else falls for it.

This portion of the suggestion I'm sure will get the most push back, but centralizing one thread to list imposters and sharing their information I would believe would cut down massive on imposters scams. There was a list already started but hasn't been touched since 2015. RaS sometimes will get 2 or 3 reports all in the same imposter all within an hour or so of each other. If the imposters information was more readily available and didn't even have to use the search function it could potentially stop a scam. As seen here there is a post from @oldscho0l warning people of this imposter, yet another people got scammed by the same dude.


With the creation of the new category with the threads being moved/created and kept up to date as best as possible, I believe it could help curve some of these scams that are happening and Make Sythe Safe Again!

 

No support, I found the Information already provided was good enough to stop most of the scams in Question.

Another Selection thread just left to rot isn't what we need right now, I personally either think the Mods are very busy or just don't have the motivation to proper moderate.

In my opinion Sythe should look to gain more members instead of more threads for Anti-Scams, Most of it is Common Sense and there's a search bar you can use to find out if there's been any actively, I would however like to see that if a scam does happen Recovery etc the account email gets listed on the ban reason on the thread so you can more easily find the information by simply copy and pasting into the search bar, Also alot of what's been published in there are names not emails which is easily bypassed.

Also to stop impersonating all the user has to do is the discord Copy & Paste to match the Unique Number if you get scammed because you do not take the care to look for these things, Well that's on you another thread isn't going to solve stupid.

Not impressed by this lackluster Suggestion as there is already things in place to stop this from happening, Another Suggestion what will sit and Rot and look ugly.

Not gonna support - you can't teach stupid.

At least 90% of the scams that occur are people being stupid IMO.

 

I don't think staff is unmotivated, that kinda a cheap shot at them. They do a lot behind the scenes that may not show publicly. I know they are busy and active cause stuff gets handled in a timely manner and the market section is full of all of them requesting people make edits to their post to be in proper compliance.

Well how does it appear to new members joining or even completely new markets to come to Sythe when the only active section on Sythe is the RaS full of the same imposter scamming or same account being scammed.

Just as an FYI the search bar isn't available for non-Sythe members. And some of the most recent scam reports in RaS were made from guest accounts. So I would like to know how well this is working? A lurker who thought about joining now has a bad taste in their mouth about this site cause they were scammed from someone impersonating someone legit here. But if there was a section with threads kept up to date they could see this easily as the search option isn't there for them.

Sorry you do not want user safety to be a concern here.

Your right you can't teach stupid, but you can try and help them with more resources.

 

There’s a good chunk already, if someone isn’t smart enough to search a UID before a trade, request a PM or they click a .app link then that’s on them.

 

You should just start creating this resource and putting it into practice. Maybe after a year or two of upkeep and tracking information it will be at a point that Sythe staff SHOULD be managing it.

Take matters into your own hands, this isn't something that needs staff intervention if it just revolves around being a good person and keeping "stupid" customers informed.

How is a big list going to protech people? Legit account sellers don't sell dodgy accounts, New comers do? You use the discord's unique numbers to match up the Numbers? I just don't see this adding any value to Sythe apart from more work, You said it ureself you think Mods are very "Busy" Behind the scenes and I don't see what I said being a cheap Shot, They can do all the work behind scenes but that's not what Members take face value, It's how the website looks and is kept neat Mods being progressive and bringing new idea's to keep the Website Active with new games/Content and I just don't see them doing that.

 

You should make a suggestion to push for more community involvement and advertisement in hopes for growth. Sounds like you know what Sythe would need and I'm interested in your elaboration on this subject.

 

I don't think anything will happen, I appreciate the Kind words though I don't really think the mods are interested in changing community involvement & advertisement, I'm not even sure who the owner is think it's Andy? and I doubt they would be willing to invest money and time into different selections, Atleast it's still got a huge runescape following though and who doesn't love runescape XD.

I would hope this is a joke not knowing who the owner is. Probably the dude who's username is the same as this sites name. Sythe does a lot of the behind the scenes stuff. I could be wrong but I believe Matthew is the #2 here. Then after that idk. But I think they would be interested in changing the community involvement, but not by being slammed 24/7 with post talking about how they are inactive and/or unmotivated.


Anyway getting back to the topic.

I could. But the issue is the thread would have to be posted pretty much in spam thread as it would not officially have a true home in other sections based of its context. Then it would just have people posting whatever on it 24/7 taking away from its actual intent which would to be to help the community.

 

Ahhh, that's true. People would probably try to grief the thread. I am sure based on the intent and direction of the thread moderators could allow for it to be posted, maybe even pinned, inside a more suitable category within the forum. Not sure about the rules or logistics on that but with the purpose being so just and centered around the community; why not allow it a little wiggle room?

 

I'm sorry to say but for me it would be no to the suggestion, while i do understand and feel the reason behind it and "wanting safer regulations/easier access and more access" it's also part and parcel where money can be made. People will impostor other people because they CAN are ARE able to, does that mean it's the right thing to do? Of course not but it's the same as any other game not just Runescape and the market supply & demand for that game specifically.

And while this isn't a cheap shot or anything besides my personal experience, i do feel that if you're gonna call the staff lazy @OsrsSkillz just remember they do volunteer their time to moderate the website and it's sub forums, although it can be argued they also make/do sales and sell ads etc i have always seen it as "why shouldn't they?" and i know that's a different story for another time but people will have their own opinion on that too.

Just to get back on track though, a simple google search of "sythe" would give you the website and not the .app website instead of the .org which would validate that you're not actually dealing with or speaking to an impostor if you took some extra measures. Simply clicking a link because it's nice and shiny and sounds cool doesn't mean we should need to up the security because of the fact people don't want to research or find a nice discord being advertised in a specific world at the GE.
