Grade 12 physics project ideas

We need to make something with a battery and an electromagnet, any ideas? Something relatively simple that uses magnetics and, well yeah. :love:

If you hook a battery up to a piece of iron it will magnetize the iron. Is that what you're asking?

The reason this happens is from conflicting magnetic fields. It's kind of cool.

 

Is it either battery or electromagnet, or do you have to do both?

If it's just a battery, then you can attempt to separate hydrogen and oxygen in water by hooking it up to a submerged pencil.

Nothing very interesting using both a battery and an electromagnet comes to mind atm. Guess I'll edit/post later if I think of something.
