How to write a introduction!

The introduction of the paper is almost always the most important part. A lot of people are taught in school that an introduction should explain what you are going to talk about in your paper, but this is wrong, very wrong. The introduction should not directly explain what you are going to talk about in your paper, it should catch the readers attention, and make them want to read your paper!

Think of your introduction this way, think of it like a movie. How do movies start out? Take horror movies for example.

A couple is driving to an old friends house, in an unfamiliar area. They accidentally read the map wrong and take a wrong turn down a shadowy dirt road. They continue driving without realizing their mistake while their young kids quietly sleep in the backseat. They hit a bump in the road, and the car gradually rolls to a stop and smoke comes from the hood of the car.

The father checks his cell phone and doesn't have a signal. He tells the wife that everything is going to be fine, he will check out what happened. He pops the hood and gets out gradually making his way to the front of the car while he fumbles in his pocket for a small flashlight. He finally gets done and slams the hood back down, the wife looks relieved, for a split second.

The father than collapses down on top of the hood, with a knife in his back, and a shadowy figure is seen behind him. The wife scrambles and starts up the car, it never rolls over the first one or two attempts, than bam! It starts up. She drives off.

The movie will than be about some group of teenagers completely unrelated to the opening scene who wind up going down the same road for whatever reason. The opening scene was unrelated but it was there to get your attention. It sort of tells you what the movie is about by setting the tone for the movie, without exactly saying straight forward what the movie is about, this is what your introduction should do!

 

Still needs work, you just wrote out an intro, and didn't tell us how to write one.

 

Hate to be THAT person, but I lol'ed when I read the title. It should be "an" introduction, which, for your introduction about introductions to be wrong...

 

I know, I realized that as soon as I hit enter, I had something different there, than changed it to introduction, and hit enter, and realized after that it said a introduction. You can see in the first paragraph that I knew the correct grammar, lol, and we can't edit that title..

nice guide a few pictures would be nice...some pictures using notepad documents would be nice!
