Not really it all depends on the strength of the connection established by the host and your distance from their server. I tend to stay away from MP because of this, you really need either a close server or an excellent connection to experience no lag. On your part though, cutting down on running internet apps would help a tad (MSN, torrenting, etc.).

If you mean lag on your end, then reduce the fog accordingly, (press "F") and change the graphics off of fancy.

Turn down the render distance (fog), turn off fancy graphics, and turn off soft lighting if you've updated to the latest beta version. If it's still laggy it's time to upgrade your computer;]

Nobody else mentioned this, but you can also change your view distance.

If it helps, turn down fog, change graphics fast, and see if you can close any programs or delete any if they take up internet speed.

If the game you play still tends to titch or in other words lag for about half a second per minute etc, go to CTRL + Alt + Delete and open up task manager and you should see a .exe (Executable file) labelling something like ********* or minecraft.exe I don't know since I haven't played it, right click the process go to set priority -> high or above normal. Hope that helped!

    Eye-cancer...

    1. Do what he said.
    2. Make sure your fog distance is set to the closest setting.
    3. Dont run other applications (esp ones that use any bandwith)
    4. Dont use custom mods (Flyhacks, xrays)
