    Successful Communities

There are successful communities with thousands of active users and multiple comments/threads being made every minute. Some of them usually have been up for less than a few months, but are so successful already.

And there are those not-so successful communities with maybe thousands of users, but only a significant minority are active. A lot of them have been up for a while but they are still like this.

    So my question is,
how are communities like Sythe so successful?
    What's the catch?

    Ads? User reputation?
What merits do these communities have that others do not?

The staff really make the community what it is now. Like none other I have seen on any other forum.

It's what people are interested in. People play runescape a lot and Sythe has a section for Runescape and a market for Runescape. Same thing with WoW and th other games. I wouldn't say Sythe is as active as it could be.

The big market, and the yearning for rank on this forum as it is highly populated.
Besides the marketing/runescape/cheating etc which this was intended to be..
    The forum lacks.

    An established staff system helps.

I've seen many communities with established staff systems, but still have many inactive users.

Maybe that would help, but I don't think that that is the reason.

    Incentive.

This community gives many incentives for users to want to stay by offering a diverse selection of sub forums with a primary center focus on the market.

The fact is that the quality of the staff and the nonexistence of corruption adds to the vibe of the community as a whole.

This community what not be nearly as successful as it is now if it only had a market.

with sythe I personally think it's the time it's been up mixed with the staff who've ran it that makes it so successful.

I've been a member here for 4 years, and It's had ups and downs, but the staff over the years have worked pretty hard to keep things neat and clean while battling all the ban evasion and scammers.
Their not perfect, but with the amount of people sythe holds, no one could be.

Well there really weren't any other blackmarkets for RuneScape when Sythe was created (there were a few, most just didn't take off) and so that's pretty much why Sythe succeeded.

The way we started out was by offering bots (that was 2003-2005) that Sythe actually made himself. Others came along, learned to make bots too, and Sythe became the place to go for bots. Then, in 2005, that market opened up and people started to buy and sell. Since such a huge flow of members were coming in for the bots, the market quickly became the most popular section on the site. So, when all the old bots died and script bots invaded everything, the site was able to maintain itself souly on the market. Without the market right now, we don't have a community.

    Simply the content.

Sythe is known by a wide array of RuneScapers for being the dominant black market to sell accounts.

RSBot is known by a wide array of RuneScapers for being the dominant FREE botting community.

RSBots.net is known by a... You get the point!

It's all about originality, and pin-pointing on a specific area of something that you know will appeal to an audience.

Not everyone here is for the market, though. It may be the sites biggest asset, but Sythe.org could get along pretty good without one.

I highly doubt Sythe could survive without the market.

    Currently viewing Runescape markets: 165

Currently viewing WOW and other game markets: 32

Currently viewing all other subforums: 74

I think the numbers speak for themselves. Check the introductions/farewells community section. 90% of the new members are here for the market

There's only room for a few major players (websites) in each scene. Once a community (or two) becomes established into "the" place to go, there's no room for other similar websites.

I could make a complete clone of this website. Game markets, cheating, whatever. I could have good staff. I could advertise the site all over and tell everyone I know. I'm still only going to get about 100 members at the most, and a few months later probably die entirely. Why? Because this site already exists with an established member base. There's no reason to join my site in this case. Inorder to get success, I would need something unique and useful to offer.

    I joined sythe.org to use scarscape :p

i think the main reason people started to go to sythe was because rscheatnet died and there was no other website like rscheatnet at that time.

I think that I came because of the member base and also to sell things. We could survive without a market but the target audience/user group would then be limited thus making the amount of people on the website alot lower.

The bigger you are the bigger you get...

But, in my opinion, staff is VERY important in a forum.

    market, staff, and structure

lets take powerbot for example, they have a market but their site is overrun by trolls and the mods dont do anything.

the staff at sythe do good in keeping stuff like that out.
