    Getting Motivated (Homework)

Hey Guys, I am in grade 9, and I can't get myself motivated to do any homework. I am good student, but when it comes to doing homework I just have the "fuck it" attitude and don't bother to do it. Report cards came out today and every single teacher commented that I would bump my 'c' grades up to 'b' or 'a' grades if I did my homework.. :/

    I've quit games ect ect.

What are you some ways I can motivate myself to not be an idiot and neglect my homework?

Make yourself wanna do the homework.. Think about your future.. Your in high school, your not that far along from graduating. I'm sure you want to go to college, or at least have a nice high paying job.. You should do homework anyways, it's about 25% of your grade :/.. I wasn't very motivated either, but then I thought about my future.. and look I'm in college now :D

Set yourself a goal and do NOT stop until you achieve it. If you don't care, you don't care, but if you tell yourself exactly what percent you will get, then you will get that grade.

Homework is the key to good grades in high school, tests aren't as important because not many people are good test takers! Just push yourself and think long term :)

If you're got self-discipline then tell yourself that for every hour of studying/work you do, you get 2 hours of recreation or something like that. A friend of mine does that and he's scoring big at everything but is really just an average kid like you and me. If you have any spare periods, don't distract yourself with anything, I find that ditching the library or computer labs for homework and just sitting in a hallway to do it is more peaceful and less distracting.

EDIT: sorry for any spelling mistakes or word repetitions, I'm sooooo wiped

Business is a very broad field, could you narrow it down more?

    Accounting?
    Law?
    Economics?
    Salesman?
    Executives?
    Marketing?

Go to the library to do your homework?

Or find someone in your class and ask them to race you to finish. Treat homework like a business.

I know this is a bit off topic, but in Norway they are arguing about Homework being Torture, Yes, Torture, they have some professors n stuff going public saying "Does your boss at work sign you up for extra work on your FREE TIME, every week?"

Yes School is suppose to be School but they say HOMEWORK BELONGS 200 YEARS BACK IN TIME, they had a lot of Arguments, too bad a revolution potentially deleting homework in Norway is at least 10 years away and world wide 20-30 years away..

    *sighs*

Good Luck pal, I've tried to do Homework since I was in 5th grade, I'm now in what would have been 11th grade and still can't find motivation, I tried quitting gaming, after 4 months I still COULD NOT do homework.

Think about your future. Think what will happen when you give a transcript of your grades when looking for scholarships, their going to look at that 'one' year or even more and will not accept you. Your only in ninth grade, work hard. Do not dig your self in a whole because it wont be easy to climb out. Just work hard!

Think about your future. If you wanna get a major in business your not gonna get accepted into any university or college if you get d's and c's. You need A's and B's. make that your motivation.

Life is hard, its not a walk in the park. If it was, everyone would chill all day and play games.. You have to take responsibility for your future and do it before you leave highschool.

I know its hard to contemplate but how you perform in the last years of highsschool will determine everything in your life.

If your making 70k a year, your just scraping through buddy. You will barely go out, you wont have fun. Make 110k a year. You'll drive a pimped out car, meet hot chicks and everything.

You have to come to the realization that what you do in school will determine your standard of living in the future.

Don't take that advice, sorry Black Tux. Grades will affect your future in that it will affect your college, and your college will influence your job. I'm not saying grades are everything, but they increase your (percentage) chances in life.

    Getting Motivated (Homework)

I took the "just try harder in senior years and you will be fine" excuse and I really regretted that decision, een though youse not think it's important now, trying to work hard and actually study/do homework in those final years will be so much more difficult because you wouldnt be able to handle the work loads as they progressively become heavier from grade 9 up.

Being in grade 9, you have more responsibility and asking someone to hold you accountable at this age would only hold you back from properly mature as a student. Be organized in what you need to get done and try to break down your work, doing little by little each day instead of picking a day to cram only to give up by the enormity of the task of doing it all at once. If you have trouble with problems, go to a teacher for extra help. If they are doing true job properly, they should be more than happy and even pleased to help you understand the concepts.

Switching from a lazy student to a good student won't happen in a day but you can certainly improve your grades substantially by being organized, managing your time effectively by breaking down work loads into reasonable time frames.

PM me if you want to ask anything in private.

    Getting Motivated (Homework)

I had the same attitude in 9th grade. I had just come out of one of the hardest middle schools in the country, doing four or five hours of work a night, and had gotten into the best prep school. My advice: don't slack because it's only 9th grade! My slacking crept up on me and i had a B average in the 9th and 10th grades, despite being in the top 10% of my class intellect wise. The first half of this year, i had a B+/A- average, but still cannot find a determined drive to work. Yet for the past few months, I have been much more driven and now get mostly As.

To be honest, the easiest way to be driven to work is to fall into the societal pattern of wondering "how am I going to get into college". Your parents will scream at you to work, you'll read articles daily about failures and successes, and college will become the center of your life. However, if you prefer to live with more liberty than that, there is a much better way of looking at it that will motivate you much more.

I suggest you take a philosophical look at your goals in life. What is the purpose of your existence? Do you want to be able to be married? Have and provide for children? Do you want to help people as a doctor, save people as a fireman, or just make a lot of money and own three apartments?

If you pick a future goal and stick by it, the work will seem easy and even fun. If you think about it, doing work is not much different from playing runescape. In runescape, you'll spend thousands of hours burning logs or cutting trees or whatever to get to 99. Well, think about providing for your children as 99 WC, and having an apartment in rome as 99 FM. You still do the "meaningless" work, but its for a goal.

There's even an added benefit. The work isn't meaningless! You'll actually become smarter from it. You'll develop passions, learn new things, and think about the world in a different way.

My ultimate suggestion, quit runescape, all your video games, and maybe even sythe for a month. Try it out! It might be good for you.

I'm the same way - back then I wouldn't care but then I noticed. Do I want to be a fat kid when I grow up? No, the only way to do homework is if you force yourself. Remove everything and start to stay after school with some teachers and possibly get help that way.

PM me if you need more help man.

    Getting Motivated (Homework)

After elementary school your brain begins to endure real challenging assignments, problems, equations etc. Some people work through it, others shut down as they're too lazy to study an hour or so a night (really all it takes in normal classes).

All I can tell you is set your goals higher, and actually work towards getting A's, I used to be a straight A student, then I got to B's and it all spiraled downwards from there, currently at C's and D's, new 9 weeks tomorrow morning, I'm going back to my old self, I want to change my grades, they're quite embarrassing.

Tell yourself, "You know what, I didn't do my homework, no computer for the night". If you can do that, it's self discipline that will later lead to a good overall worker. I hope this helped.
