Finn is an asset

Lets start with the basics.

Obviously these are just the major ones, however there are maybe a handful of people on the site who can even begin to add some of the things to their list that Finn has done. Personal examples of how he has assisted me in the time I have been here:

Considering the level of freedom that Finn has been given with in running the site, I am impressed with his overall positive record. When I look at other sites such as powerbot, where admins scam, sell positions, and ban/delete all evidence, the admin team here on Sythe is a good team. The fact that Finn handled the situation with professionalism speaks about his committment to the site.

To those who are claiming that his actions are extremely out of line or that he should not go unpunished for his "crimes", keep in mind that the open discussion of his past mistakes and what some deem his poor conduct is embarassing and punishment enough.

I will concur, there are times when Finn does not act in accordance with what should be expected of an admin. Granted, these cases are infrequent and typically involve minor issues (joking about a ban, or perhaps a rude comment), obviously there are times when he could have responded better.

I will propose however, that if given the detailed level of scrutiny that Finn is undergoing right now, that EVERYONE on the site would not fare nearly as well as Finn has thus far. I suggest to anyone who continues to bash Finn over minor instances to reflectively look at some of your own actions, and ask if you are perfect either. If you seek to target him for some of the things he is currently being accused of, please be sure to aim at me, as well the entire rest of the staff and every member on the site.

My point is that we are all human; we cannot be the perfect shining example of leadership that we would always like to be. A careless remark or a whimsical distasteful threat made in jest is meaningless when contrasted with the huge amount of good that Finn has brought during his tenure as staff of Sythe.org.

This thread is for providing a counterbalance to the recent thread which brought out what I have perceived to be a bias against Finn after every minor detail he has ever done wrong has been discussed.

If you have any positive experiences with Finn, or would like to bring up anything that I have missed, please do so here. For the record though, this is NOT a thread for blatant brown nosing; keep it constructive and provide some content to back up your post.

All the other posts about "Finn being dishonest" are only showing his bad side, which Sythe has already made an audit on and proved that most of the things that 'proved him to be dishonest' were in fact old and were already taken care of.

Finn is a good and respectable guy, I don't understand why people need to do such things to make him look bad. But this thread, is the opposite.

Love it, people seem to be only look at the negatives towards Finn. He's done wonders for the site, and I'm sure will continue to do so.

 

Maybe this thread and the dishonest thread could be merged together into one thread so its easyer for users to follow.

Glad that you went ahead and made the thread. I was planning on making one, but never had the time.

Something you can add:

-Finn went ahead and made a pardon for me when I had posted in the perm ban thread. [Source] I was a nobody back then, and hardly knew anybody. Regardless, Finn went ahead and made an appeal for me which was later accepted. This shows that Finn truly cares about the users of the site, and is another reason as to why he is a huge asset to the site.

- Finn steps up and decides to help User Education do some highly needed renevation. [Source] Without Finn the User Education section would have more than likely completely died out, as it was just a matter of time. Finn and I are currently working now to make some pretty big changes to the UE section to make a change for the better. Once again this shows he cares for the site and its users.

- Personal Support and Assistance wouldn't be where it is today without the help of Finn. Besides actually creating the section he has also made improvements such as the fairly new ability to post anonymously. [Source] This is an extremely valuble section of the site, and has proved to be helpful to many users.

Can I also point out that Sythe, Matthew, Finn, SMR, and Verts all have the ability to change any of our passwords at will? While this will probably only go unnoticed for an hour or two before both the hacked account and the rogue admin is banned, think of how much one of them can scam by hacking R2P, nate, King Tijn, etc... The fact that it has never been (nor will ever be) done shows a lot more for their integrity than anything Tyro managed to dig up.

I am happy with Finn and I messaged him after the whole smear situation was over . I feel that he has done alot of good for sythe over the years and that users should reconise this.

 

Sorry to cut in, but you can't use the fact that you haven't seen something as proof that it hasn't happened. The power that admins have is exactly why accusations against them - at any level - are taken so seriously. No admin has yet gone on a "spree," so to speak, but an admin has been demoted for abuses discovered after-the-fact. Just saying, it's unwise to assume anything of anyone.

Still, to this thread, I'd add that Finn has been responsible for a lot of staff recommendations; many of whom have themselves proved to be great assets.

 

Although I do not know him. He seems pretty cool. I talked to him a LONG time ago in the IRC.

 

I guess I just assumed that Sythe had the common sense of making all password resets traceable.

 

They are traceable. The need to trace a password reset may not be immediately obvious, though.

 

He's a chill guy, had a brief convo with him in the irc a week ago about college and mold a willies lols seems like a chill guy.

 

I have not seen a "rogue admin" case since I have been on the site thankfully. However not sure what point you are making with your post, just seems like you are affirming my point that despite the possibility for corruption exists, Finn and the rest of the current admin team have not had any instances. I imagine if one were to happen the admins and Sythe would swiftly eliminate the violater.

I doubted Finn at first because of Tyro's proof but now that I see it, Finn has helped me once or twice and I was very grateful

 

Well. It once happened on another forum, the admin went crazy and shutdown the boards lol. Was like 2 or 3 years ago tho, anyway, doesn't Sythe do autosaves?
